I've never seen so much negligence at a go kart facility. My girlfriend, Mariah and I, frequented this location while vacationing at her Millsboro, DE house. While there are signs posted at this facility that state, "Ride at your own risk.", such a statement only applies when rules and regulations of the facility are adhered to by its employees. Mariah sustained, what could have been a more serious eye injury, if it weren't for her large framed glasses protecting her eye. We rode the Outlaw & Midget Track, where we encountered a group of young adolescents, presumably aged anywhere 10-14 years old, who had no consideration for those around them, and preceded to slam into our karts, as well as others. We then rode the Super 8 Slick Track, where the same group of adolescents had joined us. Again, these adolescents were relentless with their reckless driving, and it is on this track, that one of them slammed into Mariah so hard, that debris from the track, as well as the go kart, was kicked up underneath her glasses, and into her eye, to the point where she could not see out of her eye, and required medical assistance. Here comes the negligance; signs state, there are to be no bumping into other karts. Back home, in PA, go kart employees will either reset the track, or ask culprits of excessive bumping or driving to vacate the track. This simply was not the case at your facility, or this incident could have been avoided. When Mariah was visibly in distress, holding a hand over her eye, and asked where a bathroom was, absolutely not one employee, asked her if she was alright, or needed an escort to the medical tent. Instead, a concerned couple waiting on the deck outside the track, was nice enough to escort her to the bathroom, and then to the medical tent. I got off the track, at the end of the race, in a frantic panic, as I did not see my girlfriend exit the track. It wasn't until the boyfriend of the couple who had escorted Mariah to the medical tent found me, that I was able to locate her. While she was being treated for her eye, I asked to speak to the manager. I told him of the excessive bumping and reckless driving of not only these adolescents, but other races we watched, and expressed concern for the negligence from their employees, as well as the safety for other park guests. He understood, and did speak with his employees after our conversation, however, he said to me, "They are children, you cant expect them to have the mental capacity to abide by the rules." Inwhich. I retorted, then it is the duty of your employees to enforce your policies, and if you cant manage that, a separate track that is age appropriate, should be in place. Because he's right, kids and adolescents dont read the rule billboards, which is why park employees and management, should be held accountable for enforcing policies. Even the "No open shoe policy" wasn't being enforced, as over 60% of patrons we noticed were wearing flip flops or sandals. But I digress. Although being treated at the medical tent, Mariah is still experiencing eye irritation and may have to get it looked at if it persists. We will not be returning to this location and advise parents to either be cautious of letting their children get on these karts, or have parents advise their children of the billboard rules (although that's the duty of park employees). Mini golf was fun though.
