Surf Bagel Midway — Restaurant in Delaware

My family and I get take out from surf bagel 2-3 times a month and very occasionally dine in. Over 13+ years this adds up to lots of visits and I’ve never left a review- mostly because I don’t leave reviews often but my most recent visit there is the reason it’s time to give some feedback. Many times we order bagel sandwiches; five different kinds with specific modifications, just a wild little ticket for the kitchen. Always on point! Last weekend our order was simple; a bakers dozen bagels and two pints of chicken salad. (The best! FYI) A family member picked up the order which was short one pint of chicken salad. Seriously no big deal, slightly inconvenient since we wanted it that day, but life is good if that’s your day, ya know? I called and left a message with my name, the issue, and the order number; within ten minutes a manager (Stacy or Lizzie?) called back, and kindly went above and beyond what was necessary to remedy the situation. She treated it like it was important to her to make sure we felt taken care of. None of this surprises me, but it definitely should be acknowledged, especially since people tend to write these long winded reviews only when they’re mad. I was never mad. Nothing that happened before I talked to the manager would have changed the frequency we get breakfast or lunch from Surf Bagel, but I was so grateful for their true, professional hospitality that I experienced in that 90 second phone call. Surf Bagel somehow made me love them more after a little mixup- that’s top tier. Now if you’ve made it this far; faves include the salt or everything bagel, veggie cream cheese, the chicken salad (obviously), the hash browns, pizza bagels, the spinach salad, swell Joe coffee, the pressed juices! Everything! Shout out to Wes, who always wants...

I have been there a few times. I enjoy their food…there Everything Bagel is SO good. Would be 5 stars except they didn’t toast my daughter’s bagel with cream cheese, nor did they ask her if she wanted it toasted….thick bagel not toasted with cream cheese….let that set in your mouth……ok now go get a drink because I am sure the sound of that just dried your mouth out.

Our sandwiches were awesome and SO tasty. My wife’s smoothie was nasty (her words, not mine) and my Strawberry Banana Smoothie was like water….all OJ and very little Strawberry, Banana, and Ice. It was edible.

The wait for food. I don’t know what happened but it seemed like if you ordered a single sandwich, they jumped right on your order but if you had ordered much more, you were waiting until they got slower…..this place NEVER gets slower, so I waited about 40 minutes for 3 sandwiches and two runny nasty smoothies. But my daughter who ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese had her order in less than 5 minutes.

So, the wait for 3 sandwiches and 2 smoothies, the subpar smoothies, and failing to toast, or at least ask about toasting my daughter’s bagel is what caused a 3 star review. The wait was the worse of it all. Extremely frustrating to watch people order food 10-15 minutes after us and get their food almost immediately. Sure I would go back, but lack of food choices for individuals who have dietary needs, poor priorities of order of orders being placed and smoothies not being good especially for their cost….going here won’t be my...

Surfbagel has always been my favorite bagel spot in DE

I’ve been going to their original location in Lewes back when the previous owners had it. It’s always been a great spot with very good bagels. And they serve them up really quick.

Having a dad from Brooklyn, I grew up eating bagels in NY. Surfbagel is definitely the best in the area and rivals the ones I get up in NY and NJ.

My only complaint since SoDel took over is that they barely give you any cream cheese or butter, you definitely have to order extra and it doesn’t come close to what you get up north. I made the mistake of getting a bagel without ordering the extra butter and there was barely any on it, it was almost completely dry.

Other than that I think their sandwiches are great and they always have friendly service.

The midway location is the closest to me but I still think the Lewes location edges this one out.
