Well worth a visit for anyone interested in the complex and fascinating history of the Balkans. The museum offers a thoughtful and well-curated journey through the history of Yugoslavia, the breakup of the Balkans, and the formation of modern-day Montenegro. It does a great job of placing Montenegro’s story within the wider regional context, helping visitors understand its cultural identity and political evolution.
One of the highlights is the display of historic weaponry, which provides insight into the conflicts that have shaped the region over centuries – from Ottoman resistance to the Yugoslav wars. These exhibits are well-presented and give a tangible sense of the country’s military past.
There’s also a small but engaging art gallery, alongside a range of artefacts that bring everyday life in different historical periods to life. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and always happy to explain details or offer additional context – they really go above and beyond.
The museum is nicely laid out and easy to explore, making it an ideal stop for 1 to 2 hours. A must-visit if you’re looking to deepen your understanding of Montenegrin history and its place in the wider...

The museum is free, and even open untils 8pm on Sundays, which makes a perfect addition to a...
