I recently had the pleasure of dining at Gostiona 1928 in Podgorica and it was an experience that left a lasting impression. I wanted to take a friend from overseas to a special and authentic place in Podgorica, and Gostiona 1928 was the perfect choice.
The restaurant's name comes from the year it was built in, and finding it can be a bit tricky. It's located on Bokeska street and you have to climb two flights of stairs until you reach the big white door. There's no signage to point you in the right direction, but once you find it, you'll be glad you did.
The restaurant itself is spacious and uniquely decorated for Podgorica's standards. They avoid modern decor and instead went for classical hues of walls and large windows overlooking the City hall. There's enough distance between the tables for privacy, which is appreciated.
Our waiter was impeccable, with excellent English skills and great recommendations. He was very attentive and stopped by the table to refill our glasses, ask if everything was okay, and if we needed anything else. It's always refreshing to have such great service, and our waiter did an excellent job.
As for the food, it was delicious. We started with a selection of Montenegrin cheese, which included hard cheese, Kolasin mladi cheese, Pljevlja cheese, and smoked cheese, along with walnuts, olives, and apricots. For our main course, we had the season salad Gostiona 1928 and the famous popeci with homemade bread.
Even though we only had sparkling water with our dinner, as we both had to drive, the restaurant had an impressive selection of wines and beers. The place wasn't packed with other guests, which was a good thing. It was a regular Thursday evening, so not many people were there for dinner, but as far as I could see, they were mostly foreigners.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my evening at Gostiona 1928, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic and delicious dining experience in Podgorica. Whether you're a local or a tourist, the warm atmosphere, excellent service, and mouth-watering food will leave you wanting to come...
Read moreWe dined here on Monday 8/9. Our waiter was kind and tried his best given the circumstances. We ordered cocktails and four risottos. Our drinks came after 30 mins which we thought was a bit long but no big deal. Our waiter repeatedly assured us the food was coming however after two hours, there was still no food. Around 2 hours and 15 minutes after we ordered, our food arrived which was raw rice with nothing to it and genuinely inedible. The only person in the kitchen was doing dishes for the first hour and a half we were there then eventually started cooking after a cigarette break near our table. This individual was also on the phone the entire time. We all work in hospitality and thought it could be a range of issues however it seemed genuinely perplexing how many issues there were. I have attached an image of the “green risotto with chicken” that included uncooked rice, no chicken and was just plain white rice with chopped basil. Do not come here. They need to fix their issues...
Read moreDined here this evening and while the waiter was very pleasant, and clearly having a stressful night (despite there being two tables), the experience was absolutely bizarre. We were warned of a 30 minute wait on food, but 90 minutes later we enquired how long it would be and were told 15 minutes. To their credit, they brought up a round of drinks on the house, and the local wine was lovely! However, the food came over two hours later, and was absolutely inedible. The risotto was just undercooked basmati rice, with no flavourings. Had a cheeky peek at the kitchen 90 mins in on way to bathroom, and there was just one lady washing dishes, and not cooking food so not really sure what went wrong here. I wouldn’t recommend but hopefully we just came on a super off night! It would have been an expensive meal if we had paid for our food at €15+ per main, so were hoping for a lovely experience on our last night of...
