Taking the train in Morocco is hit or miss. Read below to see if it’s a good fit for your style trip and timing.
Airport: The train stations are connected to the airport. You do not need to take a taxi to get connected to the trains in Casablanca or to your next city.
Time: Our first train from Casablanca to Tangier was delayed a few hours due to breakdown - we heard from the locals that this is common with the slow trains within the city and not as common with the high speed trains from city-to-city. Pending on flight options, trains can be longer or shorter in duration. As many cities only have one flight a day, trains were quicker for us.
Seats: Local trains within the city will not have assigned seats, board 30 min early if you’d like to get a seat of your choosing. Trains going further distances will have an assigned seat. The light up screen outside the door will have the Voiture number and inside the door above the entrance will be the range of seat numbers. Ignore the number painted on the train itself. See pictures. You will be expected to have your boarding pass scanned once trains are in motion.
Security: train security is minimal, some have screening but you do not have to take anything out of your bag and can bring water through
Amenities: restaurants are in most train stations, and there are snacks on the train if you move carts to find it. There are also toilets at the station and on the train. There are locations for big luggage at each...
Read moreCasa port is one of the nicer ONCF train stations in Morocco. Like many of the renovated stations (e.g., Tangiers), it has an almost shopping mall appearance with several retail clothing outlets in addition to eateries and coffee chains like McDonald's and Starbucks. There are a few main levels, but the best public seating is upstairs near the ticket office.
The ONCF employees were nice and professional, and assisted us with purchasing tickets to the airport station. There were also self-serve machines, but they appeared nonfunctional.
The restrooms were quite clean and the prayer area was an appreciated amenity, allowing us to make ablutions and pray while traveling.
Only a 10 minute walk from one of the city's CTM stations, we frequently use the train to get to and from the airport and CTM for the intercity travel. If you're heading to or from a city not served directly by the train and only ONCF's Supratours buses, CTM serves as a viable (and often cheaper)...

You can travel to north up to Kenitra via the capital Rabat from Casa Port train station every hour. This is the shuttle train service. You can also take a train to the Casablanca Muhammad-V Airport from this station every hour. It costs around $5.00 only. The station is almost in the city center, close to everything. You can walk to many places. New station building is very beautiful, airy, well illuminated with many stores/shops including cafe and restaurants. Ticket counters or windows are located at the ground floor and so...
