Today 19.7.1947 Major General Bogyoke Aung San (together with other Ministers) was assassinated by the Burmese Military at the age of 32. A young turbulent life dedicated to the independence of Burma. Born in1915 to a middle class family he entered University in 1933 and showed great interest in the political development. He fast became a Student Union leader and developed Anti-British and Anti-Imperialistic views. Due to his political activities he failed the exam in 1938 and decided to dedicate his career to political activities. He lead the ME 1300 Revolution (against British rule) in 1939 and was a founding member of the Communist Party of Burma but soon after founded the more Marxist oriented Burma Revolution Party. In 1940 under a organization 'Thirty Comrades' he allied with the Japanese before their invasion, recruited Burmese fighters for support. On 1st August 1943 Japan declared Burma's independence from the British. Aung San however soon later realized the weakness of the Japanese and prepared the 'Anti-Fascist Freedom' league in 1944. After WWII he became friend with the British and was in fact the Prime Minister of Burma. Ironically Aung San was the founder of the Burma Armed Forces that entered the unprotected Government Building in Rangoon with just 4 soldiers that killed him. He is considered the Father of the Nation of modern-day Myanmar, instrumental in Burma's independence from British rule but was assassinated just six months before his goal was realized. He left 4 Children and Aung San Suu Kyi keeps his...

General Aung San Park in Yangon is a beautiful urban oasis that combines natural beauty with a peaceful atmosphere, making it a perfect destination for relaxation and recreation. The park features expansive lawns, diverse plant life, and a picturesque lake, providing a scenic backdrop for various activities such as jogging, walking, or cycling. It’s a favorite spot for families, couples, and solo visitors who enjoy picnicking under the shade of the trees, practicing yoga, or simply sitting by the lake to take in the view. The well-maintained paths are great for a leisurely stroll, while the park’s playground makes it a hit with children. Whether you’re looking to stay active or just unwind, General Aung San Park offers a delightful break...

Bogyoke Aung San Park, generally just called Bogyoke Park, is a northern stretch of land between Kandawgyi Lake and Nat Mauk Street. Essentially, it’s part of Kandawgyi Park, but in some ways, the best part. You can’t miss it because of the statue of Bogyoke, which faces Nat Mauk, and is illuminated at night (see Bogyoke Aung San and Bogyoke at Night photos). The best gardens in Kandawgyi/Bogyoke park, are right around Bogyoke’s statue (see Gardens photo). Bogyoki is “Major General,” so as a term of respect it is used for Bogyoke (Maj. Gen’l) Aung San. Not worth going out of your way to see, but if you’re in the area, this is the best-maintained, and cleanest, public park area adjacent to...

Bogyoke Park is one of the best places in Yangon, Myanmar. You can stroll and walk at the park while looking at the green trees and the beautiful lake. You can walk along the bridge and breathe fresh oxygen. Don't forget to sit on the benches of the bridge where you will see Shwedagon pagoda and the amazing scenery. You wiil also notice water under the bridge. You will see Karaweik Hotel at the distance while you walk around the park. At the entrance, you can take photos with General Aung San Statute and the beautiful flowers. There are also some restaurants in Bogyoke Park.

General Aung San Park is a great outdoors venue, one of the best that I have seen in Southeast Asia. The locals love it. Many of them visit after work alone, in couples and in groups. I sat, watched and listened to a group of people who were having a picnic. One of them had brought his guitar along. The others sang. It was genuine fun. Young lovers come here probably to have privacy away from home. Simply walk around in mid-afternoon for unique experiences of your own.
