Today 19.7.1947 Major General Bogyoke Aung San (together with other Ministers) was assassinated by the Burmese Military at the age of 32. A young turbulent life dedicated to the independence of Burma. Born in1915 to a middle class family he entered University in 1933 and showed great interest in the political development. He fast became a Student Union leader and developed Anti-British and Anti-Imperialistic views. Read moreBogyoke Aung San Park, generally just called Bogyoke Park, is a northern stretch of land between Kandawgyi Lake and Nat Mauk Street. Essentially, it’s part of Kandawgyi Park, but in some ways, the best part. You can’t miss it because of the statue of Bogyoke, which faces Nat Mauk, and is illuminated at night (see Bogyoke Aung San and Bogyoke at Night photos). The best gardens in Kandawgyi/Bogyoke park, are right around Bogyoke’s statue (see Gardens photo). Bogyoki is “Major General,” so as a term of respect it is used for Bogyoke (Maj. Gen’l) Aung San. Not worth going out of your way to see, but if you’re in the area, this is the best-maintained, and cleanest, public park area adjacent to...
