20th century attitudes to smoking. When we arrived, we had to go pay in an indoor smoking area. He justified it by saying the windows were open, but the lady, who I think was his wife, was right by the door and didn't move despite it bothering us. Basically the vibe we got was "tough luck if you don't like tobacco smoke, we'll just smoke anyway". I only stayed so as not to disappoint my daughter. Ash trays on every table, so it's probably horrible in there on an evening if you don't like smoke. It's disappointing because Namibian laws protect consumers from smoke, but some people don't follow the laws properly.

I mentioned it to the assistant and she just laughed and said "We smoke everywhere here", as if that were a good thing. It's surprising that some people are still so backward about protection from smoking.

My girlfriend and I went on the guided eBike tour. I’m a very experienced mountain biker, but my partner has never been very confident on a bicycle. The guides were fantastic, especially given the vast difference in skill between my partner and I. They were knowledgable, attentive and of course great fun to be with. The pace varied throughout the tour and that made it interesting. There are easy going city bits, as well as a couple of chances to try and get the bikes to top speed. My personal favourite was the singletrack down the river, and the guide in front set a decent pace.

In all this was a fantastic experience that I’d recommend to any and all, regardless of your skill level.

Of course, once you get back there’s an ice cold draught...

A rustic and quaint establishedment on the edge of where the Swakop river flows into the Atlantic ocean. Excellent for group parties with personalised catering - we had a wonderful spread of roast and braai meat, and an even more excellent selection of vegetables and salads. Pity I never took photos of the food :( Plenty to do as well, a putt putt course and paintball facilities.
