I recently had the absolute pleasure of dining at The Tug Restaurant in Swakopmund, and it was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we stepped into this iconic seaside gem, we were captivated by its nautical charm and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean crashing against the Swakopmund jetty. The ambiance is both cozy and vibrant, with the unique tugboat-inspired design adding a special touch that makes you feel like you're dining aboard a ship. It’s the perfect blend of rustic elegance and coastal allure. The food was an absolute highlight—every dish was a masterpiece of flavor and freshness. We started with the local Walvis Bay oysters, which were plump, briny, and served perfectly chilled. For mains, the grilled kingklip was cooked to perfection, flaking beautifully with a buttery finish, paired with fresh Swakopmund asparagus that had a delightful, unique taste. The menu’s diversity, from seafood to tender game meats like oryx, ensures there’s something for every palate. The cocktail menu was equally impressive, with expertly crafted drinks that complemented the meal wonderfully. What truly elevated our experience to unforgettable heights was our waiter, Salomon. His service was impeccable—attentive yet unobtrusive, with a warm and genuine smile that made us feel like valued guests. Salomon’s knowledge of the menu was outstanding; his recommendations, from the catch of the day to the perfect wine pairing, were spot-on and enhanced our dining experience. He took the time to share insights about the local ingredients and even offered a few charming anecdotes about Swakopmund, making the evening feel personal and special. His enthusiasm and professionalism were truly top-notch, and he’s a shining example of the restaurant’s commitment to exceptional service. The Tug’s reputation as a must-visit in Swakopmund is well-deserved. The combination of exquisite food, a stunning oceanfront setting, and unparalleled service—especially from Salomon—made this one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. I’m already looking forward to my next visit and highly recommend booking a table (well in advance!) to enjoy this culinary treasure. Five...

Nestled on the shores of Swakopmund, right where the waves kiss the coast, The Tug Restaurant offers more than just a meal—it delivers a memorable experience steeped in history and charm. Built around the original Danie Hugo Tugboat, the restaurant is a stunning tribute to Namibia’s maritime legacy.

From the moment you step aboard, the ambiance sweeps you into a unique nautical world. The wooden interiors, porthole-style windows, and carefully preserved structure of the ship create an atmosphere that is both cozy and full of character. It’s a rare feeling to be dining inside a piece of history, with the Atlantic Ocean as your backdrop.

A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff who not only provided exceptional service but also took the time to guide us through the rich history of the tugboat and how it was transformed into this iconic restaurant. Their passion and knowledge truly elevated the visit, making it feel like a journey through time as well as a culinary treat.

Whether you’re enjoying fresh seafood, watching the sunset over the ocean, or simply soaking in the maritime magic, The Tug is an absolute must-visit in Swakopmund. Thank you once again to the team for such a warm and insightful...

Just not enough words to describe The Tug.

Come for the food, stay because everything is perfection. Starting from the easy and highly efficient online reservation, till you get back home, the entire evening is an absolute experience.

The food is beyond exquisite, decadent, plated with passion and exploding with delicate flavours.

The service is way above the international 5* standards. You can truly feel the dedication and love from every member of staff.

The Owner, Chef Mr Brett Southworth is up front and hands on with his personal charm and elegance with every guest. Always welcoming, smiling and extremely knowledgeable about wine pairing. (When not elbows deep in the kitchen ensuring his first class standards are maintained)

Of course, the view of the icy Atlantic is simply magical, with breath taking sunsets and a photographers dream while enjoying an insanely delicious cocktail or a robust creamy coffee.

An absolute MUST when in Swakop. Be sure to book in advance.

Thank Mr Southworth, our waitress for the evening Ms Ivonne and the entire Tug Family for an unforgettable experience.

May you enjoy success for many...

Our dinner at The Tug was an unforgettable highlight of our stay in Swakopmund. Set right at the waterfront, the restaurant offers a beautiful maritime atmosphere — you truly feel like you’re dining aboard a ship, with the sound of the Atlantic in the background. The food was outstanding: fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. From perfectly prepared seafood to delicious desserts, every course was a pleasure. The quality and attention to detail were obvious in every bite. A very special mention goes to Romeo, who provided exceptional service throughout the evening. His attentiveness, warm personality, and excellent recommendations turned a great meal into a truly memorable experience. He made us feel welcome and genuinely cared for, making the atmosphere even more special. We would highly recommend The Tug to anyone visiting Swakopmund — for the view, the food, and the first-class service. Thank you, Romeo and team, for an unforgettable evening!
