I had a very unpleasant experience at the entrance of the restaurant today around 16:00. I arrived with a friend, and to our surprise, the security guard stopped us from entering the establishment. He informed us that we couldn't go inside to explore and could only peer through the wooden walls. We engaged in a back-and-forth with the security guard, who insisted that we needed reservations and that the place was fully booked.
We sought assistance from a gentleman who worked there, hoping to clarify the situation. We asked him if reservations were required, and he responded that they were not. However, after speaking to the security guard, this gentleman returned to the restaurant and, to our dismay, the security guard maintained that there was no available space for us.
Curiously, we could clearly see an unoccupied table, but it seemed as though the security guard had no intention of allowing us (two black women) to enter the restaurant. Frustrated by the situation, we made two requests: firstly, to speak with the manager so that we could report the security guard's behavior, and secondly, to obtain the guard's name. Regrettably, he declined to provide us with any information, suggesting that we call the manager ourselves.
This encounter left us deeply dissatisfied. The security guard's aggressive demeanor and apparent discrimination not only marred our experience but also raised questions about the restaurant's policies. Are certain ethnicities not welcome, or is this an issue with the security staff's professionalism? Such an incident is unfortunate and detracts from the overall reputation of the establishment."

Read moreThis place needs to be visited by an organization like the EFF (from south Africa) ... How are we in an independent Namibia, being restricted entry into a restaurant, for not looking German or "foreign" enough.
If they don't want to you to enter, they simply ask if you have made a reservation... Even if there is clearly ample space.
In Africa we are treated as if we are in foreign lands. Go to these foreign lands and we will still be treated as below class... Very hurtful indeed. Are we that low of a class of people as these establishments make us to feel.
Simply catering, for German people. Go there as a local and you will feel the discrimination/ below par service immediately. Unless of course you are or look German...
Disgusting behavior from the guard at the entrance aswell, but obviously one would think, they are only following instructions.
One does not want to talk about Racial inequality, but its clearly very visible and obvious here. Go see for yourself.
Never ever have I ever been told By a guard to "call the manager yourself ".
Traumatizing experience, hopefully this is not the same experience next time I visit. As I would definitely like to leave a better review. Train your security guard or remove them.
I will be trying this place one more time. And for proof I'm recording my next experience.
Racism refined and repackaged, but equally descriminatory.
Minus one...
Read moreThere is lots of fun to be had at Alstadt, if you're not one of the locals sitting at the bar, that fun is however not for you.
If you're a tourist with an unfamiliar face you'll be placed in a dining hall with about as much ambiance as a high school cafeteria with dead flies on the window sill next to you.
Also don't order the pizza, it was burnt. If you can't hack something we all learnt how to do during lockdown rather just take it off the menu.
After being halfway through our second beer the bill was dropped on our table without anyone asking for it. Almost to insinuate that we need to move on now. There are more tourists lined up that needs fleecing and they need the table.
I've travelled all over the African continent and Europe and by no means am I a princess expecting 5 star levels of service but this was a bit unwelcoming and unacceptable even for my own low standards.
Some positives, the pork knuckle was decent enough, the carbonara very tasty and the waitress was friendly and the food came out quickly. So it's not all doom and gloom. If you're looking for a hidden gem of a German style restaurant, this is not it however. Rather just go to the Swakopmund brewing company where we ended up afterwards to finish our evening.
For good pizza in Swakopmund go to the Western Saloon Pizzeria...
