The Amstelpark is a fantastic park! I have been walking around there since it's opening in 1972. The lawns, shrubs, gardens, animals, all are very well cared for and in excellent condition. The Rhododendron Valley is a marvel in early spring, ablaze with huge pink , orange and red blooms. Especially in the month of May the birds sing insanely beautiful later in the evening. If you are a family person you can take your kids to the animal farm on top of the hill - which has a playground with climbing devices - and after the fun there's small eating places a stone's throw away to have a bite and a drink. On the other hand, if you're looking for some peace and quiet, walks in the early morning hours (see the white mist shrouding the waters of the pond) and late in the afternoon, when the crowds have gone home, are a joy. The park is for pedestrians only (shame though that some people ignore the signs to leave their bike outside the gates).
