Mall area, shopping center. Whatever you want to call it. It's a nice and cozey area for you to eat, drink, shop etc.
Over the years the area has fallen into a bit of disrepair, however lately they are remodeling the place entirely.
Update: it's being extensively remodeled. The shopperhall is being updated and some facades have been mordenised.
There however still is an abundance of loitering people, not in a good way.
It has become less of a clothes/electronics shopping area and has transitioned more towards small cafe's, restaureants, takeout etc. The clothing stores are still there but theres only a few large chain stores there such as the C&A. But it's ussualy enough.
The area is well connected for public transport with quite a few hotels around. So if you are planning on landing at Schiphol, theres a direct train connection to the Amsterdamse Poort, where you are able to get a daypass for the public tranport so you can go to the city center etc. within 15-20 minutes...

Very multicultural with a tropical atmosphere: Restaurants There is a total of 4 supermarkets which are: Lidl, Aldi, Albert Heijn and Vomar. Drugstores: Etos, Kruidvat, Holland&Barret. Discountshops: Op=Op, Zeeman, TK MAXX and the Bazaar. A big public Library. Several Afro hairshops, Nailsalon, Turkish, Italian and Surinamese Restaurants. There is also a small shopping center called Shopperhall with small boutiques. There is a streetmarket on Mondays, Thursdays and Friday located near De Albert Heijn. There is also another Maret thats named "Braderie" this takes place every Quarter of the year. There are occasional events here which includes performances from the Brassband etc....

The halal meat I bought there was surprisingly high quality. People are generally friendly, which makes walking around and shopping enjoyable.
