Worst experience ever in an escape room. In between us we have played around a hundred rooms, never before anything like this. We played the Forbidden Temple of Montezuma. As a room it wasn't even bad to be honest, but the general experience was VERY bad. First of, initially we were supposed to play a completely different room, but the game master was sick so we were asked to switch. Ok, this can happen, no worries, we chose to go for the temple with an extra 15 minutes since we were only two and the room we booked originally was for 90 minutes (unlike the temple which is 75). Then we started the game and the whole thing was horrible. The company has a policy of "we give a hint every 10 minutes". I guess it is in order for the poor game master to have time for everyone, as she was only one and had to care for 3-4 rooms at the same time. There is also a white button to ask for help in theory, which I really doubt anyone checks. With around 25 minutes to go we were supposed to solve a riddle, the mechanism of which was unfortunately broken. So we have figured out the solution but just had to wait there 20 minutes (while pressing the button or asking verbally for help) staring each other as we weren't sure what was going on. With 5 minutes remaining the game master finally acknowledged the issue and came in to the room. She initially asked us to solve the riddle like we have been trying for the last 15-20 minutes before coming in. This for me sure proves that no one paid any attention to our game this whole time, as if she did, she'd know we tried to solve it properly. After the issue was resolved (after the second time she came back, we had to wait another 2-3 minutes cause it was "now fixed" while it wasn't), of course we had no desire to finish our game. There were around 2 minutes remaining (while we were supposed to be done with this with 20-25 minutes) and we were offered an extra 5-10 minutes because of the issue. All in all, a very bad taste from this room. In a country where we played probably the best rooms ever, this company has no place for me. I...
Read moreWe went as a group of 5 with some of us having had minimal escape room experience. It was really important to us that it would just be us in the room and not shared with the public (some escape rooms don't specify this), which was why we decided on this place initially.
For people worried about COVID-19 concerns, there were plenty of hand sanitiser bottles around and the staff member present, Romy, was active in ensuring that people cleaned their hands before entering the rooms and in maintaining social distancing when another group was present.
The room in itself was amazing. The puzzles were challenging, confusing at times but definitely exciting and was everything we wanted. Special thanks to Romy, a super fun and charismatic person that steered us in the right direction whenever we were stuck for too long (which was often) without giving away too much.
If the 5 of us return to Amsterdam again, we'll definitely try out the...
Read moreGame Over escape rooms is in an outer ring of Amsterdam. It's a 20 minute tram ride to the place if you go from Amsterdam Central.
The woman who owns the place is very enthusiastic. Before the escape room began she explained very clearly what we should and shouldn't do. When the escape room began, so did the roleplaying of the hostess. Even though we've spoken to her before, her performance was spot on and actually kind of thrilling.
The escape room "forbidden temple of Montezuma", the one we had chosen, was pretty cool and kinda tricky. There were no 'wow that is amazing' elements, and because we were warned we should be careful with the escape room, there were a couple of elements we didn't dare to do.
Overall this was a very good experience, and I would totally recommend it to people who are relatively new to escape rooms. The difficulty was perfect for the group of friends I was with, and it was...
