NDSM — Attraction in Amsterdam

Just a short free ferry ride from central station, on a sunny summer afternoon at the NDSM arts precinct in Amsterdam you can expect a rich tapestry of artistic expressions and creative energies. A treasure trove for advid photographers, one can enjoy a vibrant mix of installations, and street art, across the various spaces of this former shipyard turned cultural hub. The precinct is home to the STRAAT Museum, renowned for its extensive collection of street art, and Art City NDSM, a hub for urban creativity. During the visit, although the expo was closed, the surrounding area was filled with intriguing art installations and monuments. Eye-catching curiosities like a yellow submarine, a crane hotel and random scaffolded installations, added lots of character to the repurposed landscape. The NDSM has a rich and extensive history of boat builders, which is almost overshadowed by the illegal immagrants which squatted here for years. Since the squatters were removed, this place flourishes as a scene for events ranging from house parties, to small festivals. I suspect pricing and promotion have somthing to do with that.

As a visitor, it is appearant the NDSM location tries to present itself as a mix of historical boat building and shipping, Amsterdam and an artistic hipster style. Unless there is something to do here, or it's part of a tour, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this place... which is not because of the place itself, but simply because this is Amsterdam and if you can, I personally would visit "De Nachtwacht" at the...

As soon as you get off the free ferry that you can take from the back of Amsterdam central station you feel like you have landed in Graffiti land. There are unique, super skilled mural all around the place, on top, in front, around, on the back even close to the other side of the water next to the tattoo shop. There is a huge space with legal walls to express yourself. You can be an artist or just an amateur and use your spray can on the containers where everyone sketch.
