My now fiancé Maggie and I went on a tulip tour with Mike & Seila on April 25th, 2019. The tour began when we were picked up near Amsterdam Centraal station. We were in a group of 5 in a white van. We learned that Mike, the tour operator, was at least a second generation tulip farmer. He seemed to know everything it was possible to know about tulips, how they are grown, where they are grown, the culling/collection process, and what happens after they are collected. It was truly fascinating. We traveled North of Amsterdam to the peninsula and north of the Hoorn city area, specifically around Oosterblokker. On our way we saw fields and fields of millions of tulips of every color. The tour continued with a visit to the tiniest candy store you’ve ever seen and its delightful Dutch candies. We then had the opportunity to stop and visit several tulip fields to take pictures in the fields. Later we made a visit to a windmill museum and a working windmill that was in operation. We were allowed to go up into the windmill all the way to the top and see the inner workings of the windmill. There was some rain on the day of our tour, but Mike and Seila didn’t let that ruin the day—they were prepared with rain boots, and reorganized the itinerary to let the rain clear up. The small group tour allowed us to meet other people in the tour group, and the opportunity to ask questions of Mike and Seila. The tour was an excellent value for the money, provided excellent opportunities for photos, and allowed us to learn about tulip farming, windmills, and Dutch culture. Mike and Seila even helped me with a surprise proposal to Maggie by taking beautiful photos and video—we cannot thank them enough for being part of our special day. We would recommend this tour to anyone who loves beautiful sights and of course,...
Read moreWe had a wonderful day on our tulip tour. We chose it for a few reasons, the fields are not too far from Amsterdam, we were able to visit the windmill museum, the tour includes lunch, and the total tour time is 6 hours, rather than a much longer day.
The tour starts just north of Amsterdam across the IJ, and is easily accessible by the free ferry. After boarding the bus, we drove maybe 15 minutes to a tulip field with a windmill where we were educated about the tulip bulb farmers processes, and we were able to pick our own bouquet to take back to our hotel.
Next, we drove about 20 minutes to the windmill museum where we learned about the Netherlands windmill use and toured the working windmill. It was very interesting and a bonus to be able to see a working windmill.
We then traveled 15 minutes or so to another tulip field to marvel at the seemingly endless field of various variety and age of tulips. We took tons of photos and spent a decent amount of time in the field.
We next stopped for a wonderful lunch with a dutch-style soup, lunch meats, and dutch cheeses. They provided plenty of food for the group; nobody left hungry.
Our last stop was a 3rd and larger tulip field. Overall, it was really interesting to see the tulips and learn about the history and growing methods of the tulip bulbs. We were back at our starting point exactly 6 hours after we departed. The tour guides were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful during the entire tour. Will definitely recommend to anyone wanting to visit the tulip fields in a...
Read moreThis was an amazing experience. Highly recommend. I did 3 tours with this company and I enjoyed each one very much. I did the Tulip Fields Tour which included a windmill museum and lunch. The tour guide was very friendly and attentive to his guests. We had special access to be able to walk through some of the tulip fields to take pictures. Tulip Wonderland was a great and easy way to access the Tulip Barn gardens. We were given the perfect amount of time to take lots of pictures and even get lunch if we wanted to. Lots of colors and varieties of tulips to check out and some great photo props throughout the park. Giethoorn boat tour was a fun adventure out into the country. We went early before it got too crowded. The trip included a nice lunch at a restaurant in town. You could order what you wanted from the menu and they were allergy friendly too. Had plenty of time to walk the canals and shop as well. Mike the tour guide pointed out tulip fields on the way up and back for us to take pictures. Thank you Mike for your kindness on your wonderful tour. I hope many people get to enjoy what you have...
