I stayed at this hotel for one night during my solo time in Amsterdam. The main reason I chose the hotel was because of my Gold Accor All membership and because the hotel seemed brand new.
Welcome: I was staying at the Mercure hotel before my friends left me. I checked-out from Mercure and tried to check-in to the Tribe hotel around 11:45 a.m. The receptionist was quite firm that they cannot check me in before 3 p.m. even though I mentioned my hotel program status. He claimed that there was a water issue at all rooms and he cannot get anyone into the hotel (which I found a bit of an exaggerated excuse). He kindly acceptable to keep my belongings in the safe area while I see around. I came back at 3 p.m. exactly to check-into the room since I was feeling extremely tired and I was given a room finally. No welcome drinks or room upgrades were offered due to my Accor status. So I cannot say I received the welcome that I hoped during the check-in.
The room: The hotel is brand new and the rooms have all the necessary amenities. Tribe offers more amenities compared to the sister hotel Mercure and the rooms have nicer views. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to awe me, since both the bed sheets and the duvets had stains on them as you can see in the attached photo. This is unacceptable. The Wifi signal in the room is also very inconsistent and doesn't provide a nice working level Wifi connection.
Location: My goal was to spend some time in Amsterdam at a limited time. Even though the hotel is not right at the centre, it takes only 7-10 minutes to go from the hotel to the Amsterdam city centre with public transport. There is not much around the hotel though. It is a new developing residential area. Still, I think if you are looking for a more affordable accommodation it is a great choice.
Restaurant: I had breakfast at the hotel. It costs 19 Euros but it offers a wide selection of an open buffet breakfast. Everything was fresh and nice. The restaurant is shared with the sister hotel Mercure which is right next to it. The fruit juices could be fresh though. They just offer a machine option.
Staff: Apart from the check-in, I got annoyed quite a few times with the reception staff. I had to leave my bags on the check-out since I had a late return flight. They kindly accepted my bag. However, when I arrived to pick them up, there was a tour group formed of ladies checking in. Since the hotel uses tablets to sign agreements and stuff, the old ladies were really taking their time and receptionist got really grumpy when I asked if she could pass me my bag from the door behind. She kept me waiting for an easy 10 minutes for something that would just take seconds while those old ladies were trying to type their names on the tablet. Also, when I mentioned about the stained sheets on the check-out, there was no apology or anything.
Overall: The hotel is brand new and the rooms are comfortable. However, the service level is not up to my standard. The stained sheets are unacceptable and the attitude of the reception staff should be more efficient and welcoming. For this reason, I cannot...
Read moreGood hotel for youngsters, but it would be a little bit strange for anyone over 40 years old. The staff are very young, and the hotel ambiance is very modern. Everybody is providing very good service and are very friendly. First comment, they made me prepay my bill upon my check in time. Normally at most hotels, it’s done on checkout. Secondly, if you are older and used to the normal hotels. This one might not appeal to you. The stairs are very steep, and not very safe to get to your room. You have to either take the stairs or the elevator to 1st floor, then pass through the bar and the restaurant, and after take another stairs or elevator to your floor! This is really an inconvenient design with all due respect. The cleaning service is not daily. You turn on your “clean my room” sign, and someone might clean it. This is the exact reply I got from one of the receptionist on duty. I gave him my room number, and asked for new towels. My room was cleaned indeed. My main issue with the hotel is the room layout and design. I booked the higher rate superior room (30m sq). It was cramped, and didn’t feel spacious. There is a couch that turns into a bed, and a one person sitting couch that made it a little crowded. There are no cupboards. Only a small open hanging area. The TV is not adjacent to the bed. It is more on the right side. The designers should’ve switched the hanging area with the TV area. This would be more efficient. You have to tilt your head while watching TV in bed. The bed is high and hard, and so are all of the pillows. The safe box inside the fridge cabinet is loose. Anyone may take it easily. It would be wiser if it was securely screwed inside. The bathroom shower area is very small and open. After showering, the water would be all over the bathroom. The partition may either get extended, or simply just add a glass door. It is really messy to take a shower! Also, the body wash box was empty since my arrival, and never was refilled. I didn’t use it as I had my own. On the plus side, I liked the online checkout, and simply placing my keys in the box at the reception. Also, the location of the hotel is in a quiet area, and right in front of Nord metro station. About 5 minutes to the center...
Read moreI booked on Hotels.com. Which I hate and offer poor service. I booked TRIBE HOTEL for a casual experience for 20 days. Well the hotel as cool and hip as it is; with the nicest people was sooooooooo far away from where the pulse of the city is and I wanted to stay. But as always booking with a 3rd party screws you to the wall with their policies and red tape. |A gentleman approached me at a complimentary breakfast because I was charged another $3000 dollars for taxes. Bam. Who knew. JORN METTERNICH, OPERATING MANAGER approached me due to the issues I was having. The biggest one not having a room in the phone and having to use WhatsApp (which is allllllll I use for work and that got me crazy not to mention HOTELS.Com misleading information. I have a spinal|Issue but like to walk around the city for an hour. Go back to the room. Lie down and go back out. No agenda but accidentally discovering the amazing city and architecture of Amsterdam. So I use the AI WhatsApps service which just got me aggravated and the hotel is in the north. Not south so I would need to subway (whatever it is called. I’m from NYC) or Uber it to enjoy the city. |I also complained about the €3000 plus tax added to my bill. I clearly wasn’t pleased after €150 taxi ride from airport to hotel then the tax and I asked for a room facing sometime nice. My room faces the freeway. Long story short. I believe through th Ai WhatsApp. JORN found me ask breakfast and spent at least 1.5 hours helping me to move hotels, get my money returned and found a small hotel so I can enjoy Amsterdam as it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. For anyone in the industry. I strongly recommend to get Jorn on your Executive Committee. I’m 61 and have stayed in 100’s of hotels, from the top of the top to boutique hotels and dealt with management etc and NEVER IN ALL OF MY LIFE HAVE I HAD SUCH A BAD EXPERIENCE TURN INTO A GOOD ONE. but they need to have telephones to connect to real people in real time. Not AI WHATAPP which didn’t understand 1/2 of my questions. Thank you JORN....
