I expected a little different from the museum, perhaps that's why the impressions turned out to be rather negative - I found quite a few interesting things for myself. Suitable for lovers of contemporary art (although I would say that there are not very many such exhibits), those who study fashion and clothes (including national ones) will definitely like it - the bottom floor is all dedicated to it. The top floor is dedicated to the history and colonies of the Netherlands, but everything is described rather sparingly, in my opinion, not very interesting. But the building itself is very majestic and beautiful - it was once a royal residence. The staff is very welcoming and friendly - even the security guard told us some interesting facts. Can be visited for free with a museum card. We were also advised to come here during the night of the museums - maybe we will follow this...

Lovely building on the river. It's in an amazing area of what I could see. Over the holiday (End of April till Beginning May) there is one floor for kids. Here they can learn about how and why the different races that live here live, also why they had to come over... they do this inform of story telling with animation and music and small buildings, shops where you can interact with the characters by pressing a button. They will start explaining through a mirror with a magic projector that represent their story. Basically learning how The Netherlands got so many different races in the land. Lots of interesting information about the history regarding this. It's great fun! Also have 2 workshops for both adults and kids. Great day out!! On Monday it's closed,...

Museum was really good! There were in total 3 floors (+the ground floor). The museum focuses on The Netherlands' colonial past which was very interesting to discover. On the ground floor they have made an interactive street with shops for children to draw, "cook" and have fun.

Some (small) cons : (1) We visited the museum in january 2024 - keep in mind that the second floor is currently closed, but the price of the ticket remains the same as before. (2) On the 1st floor, some explanations were only given in dutch (the english was missing). However in the rest of the museum, the explanations were both in dutch and english. (3) Some descriptions were not matching the correct object (we saw a lot of numbers that were...

Very nice museum but, The short-haired lady in the craft area is too rude to work with children. From the moment my group of 4-year-olds and I entered the area, she had a sour face and gave instructions in a curt manner. One of the girls asked her to make a second pin, and she very rudely told us, "It's one per person, and you know it!" when she had never explained that to us. She could explain the rules to the kids in a nice way and smiling. Anyway, I recommend hiring more friendly staff… and btw, the red parrot is an eclectus female, not a male. Red eclectus are females and green eclectus are males. Ollie is not hij, is zij.

I had wanted to visit this museum for quite some time and was a little afraid that an expectation might have built up that the museum might not be able to live up to. But quite the opposite. It was even much better than expected. The children's section alone is fantastic and a spectacle for adults as well. The temporary exhibitions were definitely among the best I have seen in recent years: The ideas and concepts, the choice of objects, the arrangement, the contextualisation.... and yet it was not cerebral, but appealing, low-threshold, sensual. I am really thrilled and deeply impressed.
