Strand Kijkduin is an absolute treasure along the Netherlands' coastline. It offered a unique and refreshing experience that exceeded my expectations in many ways.

One standout feature of Strand Kijkduin is the abundance of restaurants and bars that line the shore. Whether you're craving Dutch delights or international cuisine, there's something to please every palate. The quality of the food is impressive, and dining with a view of the sea is an unforgettable experience.

I must admit that, as a Mediterranean person, I had different expectations for the sea. While it might not have the vibrant blue waters I'm used to, it still provides a pleasant and refreshing dip on a warm day.

The availability of a nearby supermarket is a huge convenience. It's perfect for stocking up on essentials and snacks without the need to venture far from the beach.

Now, let's talk about those sunbeds and umbrellas. While they do come with a price tag (10 euros for sunbeds and 7 euros for umbrellas), the comfort and shade they offer are well worth it. It's a small indulgence that enhances the overall beach experience.

One small caveat is the parking situation. While there is a free car parking spot nearby, finding an empty space can be a bit of a challenge. Be prepared for a hunt or consider alternative transportation options.

In conclusion, Strand Kijkduin is a hidden gem that I highly recommend. It offers tranquility, fantastic dining options, and the convenience of a nearby supermarket. My most favorite piece of (terraformed) nature in the Netherlands is right next to this beach, consisting of a mix of heathland-like dune landscapes which turns into shallow woods here 'n there, but never for long, and with multiple big and small sandy plains which are the perfect places to chill in the sun or have a long picknick. Multiple paths criss-cross through it all in unexpected configurations. If there are other people, you can always climb over a little hill somewhere to find your own private spot if you feel the need, or get to meet some new people, whatever floats your goat! You'll find most people to be pretty relaxed by their surroundings. Can take a few tries of course before you find yourself in a meaningfull interaction. Never mind the nay-sayers and keep experimenting with your approach! Read their behaviour attentively and adjust your body language accordingly. Just like in nature, people first need to feel you're not a threat before you can expect a genuine response. Most people get a little confused when suddenly a stranger pops out of the bushes for unapparent reasons!

If you love Psytrance, there's a fantastic one evening-and-night beach festival every summer in July or August (sometimes both!) at strandpaviljoen Kijkduin, after which it's tradition to have an all-day sun-bathing afterparty at the perfect spot in this area (sorry, it's secret!).

Der Strand an der holländischen Nordseeküste ist einfach traumhaft! Feiner, goldener Sand erstreckt sich kilometerlang zwischen sanft abfallendem Wasser und den typisch über die Dünen verstreuten Strandpavillons. Die Luft ist salzig-frisch, und bei gutem Wind herrschen perfekte Bedingungen fürs Kitesurfen und Windsurfen.

Besonders beeindruckt hat mich die Sauberkeit: Müll und Seegras werden regelmäßig beseitigt, sodass man ungestört spazieren gehen oder in der Sonne entspannen kann. Zahlreiche gemütliche Strandbars laden zu kühlen Getränken und leckeren Snacks ein – der hausgemachte “Zeezicht-Cocktail” und die frischen Pommes mit hausgemachter Mayo sind absolute Highlights.

Auch für Familien ist der Strand ideal: Kinder können in den flach abfallenden Wellen planschen, während die großen Dünen genügend Platz zum Buddeln und Verstecken bieten. Rettungsschwimmer posten regelmäßig an den bewachten Strandabschnitten und sorgen für ein sicheres Badevergnügen.
