I had a very relaxing time at this spa. I first would like to note that this isn’t quite as high end as I’d imagined. And the price for the deluxe pools (I think around $60nzd) should’ve tipped me off. I was expecting this package to include a robe and jandals as I have experienced at other spas. But I believe the robes are for hire and jandals are not provided. Had I known that, I would’ve brought my own jandals. I don’t like walking barefoot around public locker rooms, showers, and toilets. However, I was one of the first to arrive in the morning and the place was still pretty clean when I left 3hrs later. Also, I thought the deluxe option meant no children, but that was not the case. Now for the good: I chose the deluxe option because it came with lockers, as opposed to open bins with the pavilion option. The deluxe has 5 pools as opposed to 8 in the pavilion, but I wanted the locker to secure my belongings. All 5 pools have lakeside views. And they are so relaxing! My favorite one was the hottest one at 106F (maybe around 42C). It was like all the tension just melted away as I meditated on sound of the babbling waterfall. And the heated recliners are amazing! The last pool I dipped into was the cold bath and I rushed to the heated recliners to heat up. The temperature change from cold to warm was very soothing. Once I noticed more children coming in, I decided it was time to leave. I also wanted to explore Rotorua anyway with the limited time I had there. I used the communal showers (the ones with no stalls). I kept my swimsuit on to rinse it as well. The shampoo and conditioner provided were okay. I luckily brought my hair serum which brought moisture back to my strands. I do recommend this place if you want a relaxing experience at an affordable price. You can book online, but I found the process confusing. One of the members in my tour group accidentally bought a private package not realizing the minimum was 2 people. I suggest going in person to make the booking or go before they open if you don’t have a booking. I was there about 15mins early with many of the local seniors and I had no issues going in. They also have ice cream and a gift shop that you can peruse through afterwards.

Ranked as one of the top 5 spas in the world and it did not disappoint. The only difficult part is to time your visit so you avoid all the older folks that may also want to use the facilities. LOL. We were lucky, we came at 12:30pm on a Monday and so the place was virtually deserted save for a few other patrons to the spa. My YEA signed up for a massage so the entrance fee was waived. I, however, just paid the entrance fee for the deluxe spa package which had access to the adults only area. The spa is all about relaxing and recharging yourself. They have about 6 different pools that range from 32 to 40 degrees celsius. The spa area itself is designed beautifully with a lots of lush greenery and it faces out into the lake as well. This includes an alkaline water pool and an acidic mineral pool that is suppose to be helpful for joint pains and other maladies of the sort. The sign says they import the water from a private source so you can’t just get it anywhere. I bounced around from each different temperature pool to soak away any aches and pains from all the hiking in our trip. I even grew really addicted to the cold water plunge and then hopping into the acidic mineral pool after. It was pretty invigorating. There were a few Instagrammers out there taking photos but honestly, just take a few and enjoy yourself. I think we were lucky there was only 1 or 2 of those people at a pretty quiet time. I could imagine during peak hours, it can be a lot more annoying. After about 2.5 hours meandering between the different hot pools and just relaxing, we called it a day. Our timing couldn’t have been better because as we were exiting the spa, we saw like 60+ senior roll in for their time in the pools. #goodtiming Overall, I would highly recommend making a visit here. The entrance fee is reasonable and you can stay as long as you want.

This was very good, but we encountered three problems to interrupt our relaxation vibes! 1. The spa is way too bright at night. I had read that it would be lovely to soak in the tubs at night and look at the stars, but it’s really too brightly lit for that. I know that the spa requires a certain amount of lighting to make sure that nobody falls getting in and out of the pools, but they could light up the footpaths without making it as bright as it is. it really diminished the nighttime experience to have so many bright lights. Perhaps somebody fell once and there was an issue and so they started really lighting it up? I know that there’s some older clientele there. I would love for them to consider lighting the footpaths and the areas around the tubs only so that people can get in and out without making it so bright that the lights are annoying. (See photos). 2. We were met with a lot of rudeness by one person on the staff. We purchased the package that allows you to go into both the Pavilion Pools and the Lakeside Pools areas, and we would spend a couple of hours in one area and then go to the other area. We preferred the area that was much less crowded, but we wanted to see what the other pools were like. In order to go back-and-forth, you have to cross through the lobby, and we also went to get a smoothie which was included in our package. We peeked into the family pool area because it was on the way to the smoothie and the lifeguard there was very upset with us. He asked what we thought we were doing, and I told him we were just looking at the family area. And I commented that the slide looked fun, and he was very rude and said we weren’t allowed in the area and certainly couldn’t go down the slide and made us feel like we weren’t going to kidnap children or something. Later, we saw him rushing around and having a conflict with another patron. Hd made us feel like we were doing something wrong when we were just on our way to get a smoothie and looked into the family area. 3. The last reason for a three star review instead of a five star review is that… speaking of kids…one of the areas was supposed to be child-free, and it was not. A family came in with two little kids, probably about a year and a half and three years old, and they started screaming; where was the grumpy lifeguard then? It would’ve been nice if he was around to get the children out of the adults-only area if he was so concerned with us not being in the family area. We finally just left, because it was about time to go anyway, but the grumpy lifeguard and the bright lights left a bad impression. And, keep in mind that I have enjoyed a lot of spas around the world, and although the setting here is lovely and the front desk people were wonderful, and they had a couple of nice cold plunges, I really felt that these other elements detracted from our stay. It was hard to relax with the kids and the bright lights.

TL;DR If this is the only pools that fits your budget, then it’s an okay option. If you can afford elsewhere, I do think it is worth paying more for more updated and premium experiences elsewhere (if that’s the vibe you are going for!). - I got the romantic package with my partner that gave us initial access to a private sky view room, followed by unlimited time in the Pavilion Pools. When checking in for our private pool, the staff member accidentally took us to the wrong type of room (the lake view room), and then once he realised was quite stern on us as if we had made the mistake, though we did not realise that we were in the wrong room at first. The sky view room is definitely a lot less pleasant of a vibe (pictured below), but was still a nice private space to relax. The private room has a changing space and a shower, too. The water in our room was not particularly hot. The inlet changed over the 40 minutes we were in the pool from hot to cold, and the temperature noticeably dipped multiple times. Comparatively to other pools in the area, this definitely was the most tepid pool we’d been in. The pavilion pools were nice. 8 pools to go between, all at different temperatures, was very pleasant - especially at night. The reflexology walk was also really fun. You also get a free juice voucher for each person. You redeem it at the cafe at the front, and it was decent. It was a good way to stay hydrated, more than anything. The communal changing areas in the pavilion pool area were fine, but nothing special. You must also pay extra to use a locker, or you have to store items in tubs on the wall. Although I felt safe keeping items in the open tubs, I think it’s disappointing that lockers are not universal/included with cost of entry. I think what struck me most about the space was that it looks a little aged. It’s fine, but with more competition in the area that’s reimagining and modernising the thermal spa experience, I think Polynesian Spa represents a price-accessible option in the market.

My experiences at this world-class spa have been nothing short of remarkable, making it undoubtedly one of my favorite destinations in Rotorua. The spa's unique location, overlooking the tranquil Lake Rotorua, sets the stage for an immersive experience that harmoniously blends nature with luxury. The scenic beauty surrounding the spa adds an element of tranquility that enhances the overall relaxation experience. What truly sets the Polynesian Spa apart is its array of thermal mineral pools. During my recent trip to Rotorua, I had the pleasure of visiting the Polynesian Spa. 🌴 The spa offers both public and private options, and I opted for the private experience. With a limited time of only -/+ 1.5 hours, I was eager to make the most of it. The private pools were an absolute delight. 🌸 Surrounded by beautiful rock formations and lush greenery, the tranquil setting allowed me to unwind completely. The mineral-rich waters are said to have therapeutic benefits, and I could feel the stress melting away as I soaked in the warm pools. The limited time was just enough to experience the relaxation I needed without feeling rushed. For those who prefer a more social experience, the public pools are a great option. 🌞 The family pools and adult pools provide a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow travelers and locals. Each pool varies in temperature, allowing you to choose the perfect setting for your comfort. After my soak, I explored the on-site shop and café. The shop offers a variety of health and beauty products, perfect for bringing a piece of the spa experience home. 🛍️ The café, with its selection of delicious snacks and beverages, provided a lovely end to my visit. Sipping on a refreshing drink while overlooking the stunning Lake Rotorua was the perfect way to wrap up my time at the spa. In conclusion, Polynesian Spa is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Rotorua. 🌟 Whether you choose the private or public option, you're guaranteed a rejuvenating experience that will leave you feeling refreshed and renewed.
