2 stars and both solely for the one way car ride and the friendly driver who sparked a conversation. The whole experience was disappointing, to say the least.
Visited Greytown for the final day of their Christmas Festival. As I was wandering around, I spotted the vintage cars driving people away and a lovely woman came up with a flyer advising free ride to the museum and free entry. I took her offer and had a lovely ride to the museum.
Once there, I was met by 3 women at the entrance to the exhibit. I was taken aback by how rude and unfriendly they were. I was then told entry was koha and when I explained I wasn't aware when I left the main center so didn't have cash, I was guilt tripped to "donate" $5 or $10 via eftpos. I have no problem with a koha and would readily have given it, however I felt like it wasn't koha entry at all. Money was expected and I was glared at when I explained I didn't have any in cash. Also, asking for a $10 donation when entry fee for an adult is $8 was incredible.
Once inside, I toured the grounds and had the pleasure of watching and listening to the musicians. I then decided to have a wee snack. Popped into their café to be told that that is also cash only and that I would have to choose what I wanted, traipse back to reception to pay and then double back to pick it up. Needless to say, I didn't purchase anything and promptly left, waiting with a few other groups to be picked up and taken back to the center. We had checked at reception about the rides back that were promised and was advised that the cars will wait at the main center and wouldn't drive down unless they had passengers so they couldn't tell us when we could expect a car let alone enough for the 4 groups waiting.
Waited for an hour and no one arrived so the groups waiting ended up walking the distance. Whilst normally fine, I have a prior back injury making this a long and difficult walk. By the time I got back, I was incredibly sore and ended up leaving Greytown very disappointed with...
Read moreWe popped into Cobblestones Museum Greytown just a few days ago and had a great time! We met Julie at reception who was extremely friendly and helpful, she gave us a brief, informative overview of the history of Cobblestones Museum, as well as a decent, easy to follow map and sent us on our way. The Museum is very nicely put together, easy to follow and not overwhelming, with some interactive parts too! Heading outside you’re surrounding by beautiful Heritage buildings that you can explore at your own pace. We bumped into Tony and Graeme too whilst wondering around, both of them provided more info, answered any questions and Tony happily gave us a demonstration on the old Print Presses!! It was great!! We’re in our early 30’s and really enjoyed our time. We’d quite happily take our younger nieces and nephews here, as well as our parents. Fun for all ages! Janette has been great over email too! A must do when in Greytown! Open nearly everyday, 10am until 4pm (October – May), 10am until 3pm (June – September). Thanks...
Read moreMy husband and I renewed our vows in the Cobblestone Museum Church on the 13th of September this year. It was an absolute dream communicating our wishes to Julie Mcghie (the Museum Co-ordinator). She always replied to our (many) questions in a timely and warm manner. We can’t think of anything that Julie and the team could have changed to improve the experience! They were incredibly helpful throughout the whole planning process and the ceremony itself went very smoothly. Sending a massive thank you...
