I dont believe this motel lives up to its advertising. Spacious it is not.|We stayed in a queen studio, but having stayed in a garden studio once before our choice this time was the wrong one.|To describe it as having a kitchenette is misleading, there is no sink, or hot plates, but a microwave, fridge, toaster and very limited cutlery and crockery. You fill up the jug in the bathroom.|The unit is VERY small, this one strangely enough had a king size bed which dominated the room.|There is no comfortable chair, just 2 metal upright dining chairs and a very small glass topped round metal table.|The bed was hard and the bathroom had a tiny basin dominated by the tap which protruded too far. There was no room for your sponge bag except on the floor.|Sky TV is only available on the TV via your own subscription in a complicated sytem involving the internet.|There is minimal space for suitcases.|On the plus side it was very clean and tidy, in the centre of town and you could park at the door.|We paid $180 (reduced from $190) and in all our years staying at motels this was the worst value.|On this holiday we stayed at other locations in a queen studio and found much better value in central Wellington and Lower Hutt.|Perhaps there is very little competition for this complex...
Read moreGreat price - friendly communication (especially when we informed them of our checkin time being later than they closed the office), room was ready, car park right outside, easy to find the motel, they had put the heater on for us, milk already in fridge, informed us of places to eat dinner that were still open as at our arrival time. Instantly knew this was a good choice to stay!||Electric blankets were a bonus but the heater warmed the room and bed up nicely. Comfortable dining chairs, good size table, comfy bed, good to have nets on the windows to avoid people staring straight in when we had the curtain open, shower was awesome (clean, good water pressure, good size). Bathroom well equipped, good size, nice to have dark coloured towels to avoid staining (from makeup etc) - toilet roll holder in the right place (in front instead of at the rear of toilet), soap, liquid wash or pump (great to have the choice). Well eqiupped kitchen - never had a room without a kitchen sink before, but for one night, it was okay.||Thanks for everything - and appreciate being able to leave our van in the car park while we got breakfast and shopped in the...
Read moreWe spent a few nights here in a garden room while we explored the southeastern corner of the North Island. It's a lovely spot, quiet considering it is on the main road, and really convenient. There are plenty of restaurants, a supermarket, and some of the town's attractions in easy walking distance.
Sarah and her husband are soooo helpful, you couldn't ask for better hosts.
The rooms themselves are either quite new or recently refurbished and the gardens are beautifully maintained. I had to do some work while we were here and the space was great for that. The wifi here wasn't the fastest, but it was one of the most stable hotel internet connections we found in the North Island in 34 days.
With daily room servicing, including the dishes, Greyfriars actually functions a little more like a hotel than a motel. We really loved it here and I couldn't...
