My sons favourite cafe in the world...we often travel through Greytown and if the cafe is open we stop! We recently stopped in after Te Matatini 2019 and Greytown was very busy. We walked in, and it looked very full. We are a cultural family and I wear a moko kauae on my chin, in the busyness, and being out of our local town where the tattoos are common, I did not know what to expect, would we be turned away? So I politely asked if there was any rooms for us. As she looked around, I was pleasantly surprised to see a man approach my husband, also with many tribal tattoos on his arms, and say My Friend, its pretty full in here but I can seat you at the 4 chairs just there in front of the window if that could work. We replied, yes please and he politely said, I’ll put a reserved on it for you... Only three days earlier we had stopped at another cafe in Te Hauke, where I had waited 20mins to be served, and put that down to being busy. This cafe also had a gift shop, so while I waited for the order, I found somethings to purchase, I jumped back in line to make the purchase. They served everybody in front of me...then when it got to me, they went back in to the kitchen and acted like I wasn’t there. Thank you Main St Deli Cafe for always making us feel like there is nothing different about us! We will always stop in when we are...
Read moreA bustling café and clearly a favourite in Greytown, with a steady stream of patrons coming and going, from leather clad bikers and tourists to locals and families with children.
Service is friendly, attentive, efficient, and personable. We were greeted with a warm smile the moment we stepped in and offered assistance straight away.
There’s a good mix of seating options, including indoor tables and a lovely outdoor area at the back. I particularly love the whimsical décor- leaves hanging from the ceiling, quirky framed prints, and charming touches of bric-a-brac throughout. It gives the space a cosy, playful character that’s both inviting and unique.
The toilets are clean and well-maintained, though with only two available, there can be a bit of a wait during busy periods- understandable given the size and popularity of the café.
The coffee is excellent, and the food menu is impressively varied. From cakes and lasagna to vegetarian dishes, along with crowd-pleasers like pancakes and eggs Benedict. Breakfast finishes at 11:30am, so be sure to get in early if that’s what you’re after.
I highly recommend this café and will definitely be back to try...
