English The moment you step off the bus, a wave of sulfur fills the air, with that unmistakable smell similar to rotten eggs. It may sound unpleasant, but instead of being bothersome, it’s actually the first sign that you’ve arrived in a truly extraordinary place. Rotorua breathes geothermal energy everywhere: the city is surrounded by steaming hot pools, bubbling mud pits, and mineral-rich waters painted in colors that seem almost unreal. From sidewalks, parks, and even backyards, columns of steam rise into the air as if the earth itself were alive and breathing beneath your feet. The feeling is surreal, like walking straight into a fantasy movie set. The sharp smell mixes with the calm atmosphere, while the sight of vapor escaping from hidden cracks adds a touch of mystery to every corner. Rotorua doesn’t just impress with what you see—it captivates with what you feel. Nature here shows its raw power, and every step reminds you that you are standing in one of the most unique places on the planet.

Warning: Do not go over the fence and swim in the area. Hot Water is an understatement. This was my first time in Rotorua, Aotetroa (New Zealand). Seeing this hot spring made my jaw drop. Absolutely magical. You can feel the intensity of the hot springs as you walk around the area. Excellent photo opportunity, and morning walking route.

There are various hot water pools around the park. At the largest the water level seems to have risen as the boardwalk is partially submerged and blocked off. A great open space worth walking through.

Watch out for the smell of sulphur, but don't worry. Amazing views to see nature in action. And all comes for free. Follow local rules and be amazed. There is a small walking tour to follow and learn about the nature as well as the local environment. Also, access to a native environment, to see what people do for cooking, washing,...
