Apenas bajas del bus, una bocanada de aire cargado de azufre te golpea, con ese olor penetrante parecido al de un huevo podrido. Rotorua respira geotermia por cada rincón: toda la ciudad está rodeada de pozones de aguas termales humeantes, burbujeantes y de colores que parecen irreales. The moment you step off the bus, a wave of sulfur fills the air, with that unmistakable smell similar to rotten eggs. It may sound unpleasant, but instead of being bothersome, it’s actually the first sign that you’ve arrived in a truly extraordinary place. Rotorua breathes geothermal energy everywhere: the city is surrounded by steaming hot pools, bubbling mud pits, and mineral-rich waters painted in colors that seem almost unreal. From sidewalks, parks, and even backyards, columns of steam rise into the air as if the earth itself were alive and breathing beneath your feet. The feeling is surreal, like walking straight into a fantasy movie set. The sharp smell mixes with the calm atmosphere, while the sight of vapor escaping from hidden cracks adds a touch of mystery to every corner.
