Better Quality Pies — Restaurant in North Island

Been to at least 4/5 bakeries on our travel up from Wellington to Rotorua over a few days, and couldn't find one vegetarian pie on offer anywhere. Better Quality Pies have a Vegetarian and Vegetarian Special pie, both of which were absolutely delicious. Hot and fresh, generously filled and flakey but not dry pastry. So good, we went back the following morning for more. They only had one vegetarian left in the cabinet, but we waited a few minutes and there was a fresh batch so we could get two. Kitchen is visible and looks spotless, great tunes and the guy on the till has excellent customer service standards. Overall, 10/10, would always return here...

I return to this unassuming spot for amazing pies every time I come to New Zealand. The seafood pie is not to be missed. Mussels, clams, prawns, scallops and fish in a delectable white sauce. The pastry on these pies is top notch; skip the petrol station pies as these are truly better quality, and there are a large assortment of savory fillings to choose from. There are also a wide array of delicious desserts, fun for the kids especially. This is a proper bakery, popular with the locals, with excellent service. We were going on the ziplining tour and got into Rotorua a bit early so we decided to grab something to eat. We did start out at Eat Street but didn't have time for a sit-down meal and ended up here. They have a huge selection of sweet and savoury treats including pies. Lots of flavours to choose from and I went with the award-winning beef, bacon, mushroom and cheese. The pie itself was quite big and the pastry was flakey. The filling was also quite nice. A nice option for food if you are in need of a quick pit stop.
