What a helluv'a shame ! 29th May 2019 ... have played the course a few times over the years & enjoy the thermal proximity & challenging holes. BUT on this occasion was (greeted?) by a young man who had eyes only for his hand-held device & really very little interest in my green-fee / cart-hire queries. Was after 3pm & thought a few holes while my wife checked out some local shops might fill the bill. The mumbled info of $25 for 9 holes + $25 for cart hire seemed OK until I was (afterwards) informed the nearby 'Springfield Golf Course' offered senior visitors an afternoon 9-hole rate of $12 only ... but hindsight's always 20/20 vision. However, I decided to forego a cart (cursed senior budgeting!) & walk the 9, but what really galled me was that at the point of sale a 'surcharge' was loaded onto the credit card I was tendering .. really! I understand this at $2 shops & corner takeaway stores, but a Golf Course catering to International clientele! I elected to pay with a direct debit card instead (a little ungraciously I admit) & my less-than-sunny attendant exploded in indignation that I should criticize the 'loading'. I then played a total shocker (7 holes only because I ran out of light) .. all in all, not really a crash-hot experience on...
Read moreA great golf course for anyone visiting the area. I hadn’t planned on playing here but we are on a long trip around the world so I haven’t played for some time but we had been to Te Puia Māori cultural centre across the road so I just stopped by yesterday to see if they could fit me in. The guy working in the pro shop was super helpful and friendly and showed me the rental clubs they had and was happy to help me out. The course itself is very playable, wide fairways and well maintained greens which run true but not ridiculously fast (some courses often have the stimp way too fast which can make it unplayable) and the layout is pretty flat and easily walkable. The signature holes 14/15/16- are around the lake, a geothermal lake with hot water and volcanic mud pools- and as this is the only course in the world that has this feature, it adds to the experience- just don’t go in there to retrieve any wayward shots. All in all a very good experience 👌a chip in from 40m to save par after a snap hooked tee shot on hole 4 of course...
Read moreHave just played in the Senior Women's Tournament at Arikikapakapa. A very challenging course with some trying pin placements and seriously undulating fairways. Even if you think you've hit a good shot it can bounce left or right and end up in the rough. As usual got to know quite a few of the bunkers and some are quite steep. The food at the cafe is excellent and want to thank Steve and the women who help their and also Ken, Kane for their help with our camper and Clinton the manager. Campers are welcome and it's $10 p/n. The only issue is with the early morning traffic with the trucks coming through from 4am. Other than that very friendly staff and if you're up for a challenge definitely give...
