Highly recommended! Great location next to Whakarewarewa village.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Imperial Hotel, and it exceeded expectations in all the right ways. From the warm welcome at check-in to the seamless service throughout my stay, every detail reflected the hotel’s commitment to quality and guest comfort.
The lobby is beautifully appointed and elegant . It’s also ideally located—close to the city’s cultural highlights and surprisingly peaceful.
Our room was immaculately clean, quiet, and tastefully furnished. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the linens soft, and the lighting thoughtful (great for both relaxing and reading). The bathroom was spacious and stocked with premium toiletries.
The staff were outstanding—professional, helpful, and genuinely kind. They helped us with last-minute reservation and directions to a hidden local spots of Rotorua and they delivered with ease and a smile.
The gym and pool are well-maintained, and it was a great way to unwind after a long day.

The mould and dirtiness aside I would like to say thanks to the Manager/Boss for handling our situation appropriately.
We were compensated for the issues and given free breakfast for a couple of days. My plug was given aswell.
A few things to touch up on (cleanliness) but a beautiful Hotel indeed. I do recommend BUT at your own risk of having slight inconveniences.
Unsure about the mold if that can be...
Read moreStaff were friendly enough, but the hotel itself is tired and poorly maintained. No drinking water provided in the rooms. I booked a spa suite, which was not cleaned to an acceptable standard — including someone else’s hair left in the shower. The room was freezing, with a weak heat pump that barely made a difference, and to make matters worse, housekeeping turned it off every day, so I returned each evening...
