Après avoir fait connaissance avec les maisons victoriennes du centre historique d’Oamaru, vous pouvez rejoindre Friendly Bay, à pied, en déambulant entre les étonnantes machines du steampunk museum . Une promenade longe le front de mer et si le temps est ensoleillé, vous pourrez y apprécier ce magnifique bleu cyan, couleur emblématique des mers du sud . Prolongez plus loin jusqu’au wharf et même après ! Une colonie de pingouins bleus y a élu résidence . On peut les observer au lever et au coucher du soleil à partir d’un petit amphithéâtre moyennant le prix « trop élevé » du ticket d’entrée . En journée, on peut également observer les otaries se disputer sur les rochers en contrebas .

Lovely local cafe! It is right on the peer overlooking the bay. Steampunk inspired design is followed throughout from the outdoor sign to the light features inside. Service was fast and fun. Food and coffee were delicious.

You can see the penguins here for free is you pay attention at night ( maybe 6pm-8pm ) you may see the penguins hiding under the rocks or boats. We walked along the sea and saw maybe 7 penguins.

Lots to see and do with some amazing eatery's. Playground for the kids, old buildings full of unique items for sale, a brewery for the adults or bring a fishing road to fish right off the wharf. Or take a sort stroll round the bay to the blue penguin colony. Also marks the end of the Alps to Ocean (A2O) bike ride. Something here...

Lovely walk round the harbour . Just be mindful of the penguins and stand back 10 meters away from the pengiuns as they have to cross the footpath. There are guides who will be there to advise you on the behaviour arround the...

If you want to see penguins just stay around this area at sunset, you don't need to go to the overpriced place made for that. Here you will see plenty of penguins but please: give them space and no flash if you want to...
