We are new residents of Oamaru and went out for lunch with an out of town visitor. This place looked nice unfortunately as the saying goes don't judge a book by its cover.Quite busy when we first arrived but by the time we were served it had quietened right down .the very expensive pie that was ordered arrived luke warm.Scones were okay but not great. We had long finished eating when the pot of tea ordered came approximately 30mins after being ordered .the staff member said she would "whip up"the coffee which we were still waiting for but she made no attempt to do so. I politely went and asked about 10 mins later if we could please have the coffee. She yelled at me" did I want takeaway and then glared at me in a very intimidating quite frightening way and said she was giving me the option since I HAD BEEN WAITING SO LONG. When she bought it to the table she slammed it down and her hands were shaking. This woman clearly has some sort of problem and maybe hospitality is not the career for her.I was really embarrassed to have taken someone there and will never step foot in the place again. Customers are who pay the bills in your business and all I did was ask politely for something I had...

Visited in November 2022. Fantastic friendly team at the cafe, with a buzzy, warm and welcoming atmosphere. The on site baked Tees Street Cafe chicken and vegetable pie was a candidate for one of the best pies I have ever had, simply amazing with chunks of moist, tender chicken and very fresh tasting veges, in a creamy, semi-caramelised onion white roux filling. Pastry well-cooked, buttery and flaky, while still firm. The pie was served at just the right eating temperature freshly crisped from the oven, and came with decidedly good (and also very fresh-tasting) home-made tomato relish. 9.5/10 (maybe a slight touch of chili needed in the tom relish for focus, but that is only a personal preference). The chicken, kimchi and grilled cheese toastie at Tees Street was also amazing - my first and completely delicious introduction to the grilled cheese kimchi toasted sandwich combo. I've had quite a few since, but this was...

On an abnormally hot day they were super busy so opened both businesses up while operating on the one lunch menu (a morning / lunch cafe is on the same site as a dinner restaurant). We had to ask for everything right from the menus through to the cutlery. When drinks were delivered one at a time they were put on the end of the table with no acknowledgement of what the beverage was, thankfully we had all ordered visibly different options. Two meals of the four arrived out 5 minutes before the third and it was another 5 minutes for the last meal to arrive. The toddlers meal (which was great at accommodating his dairy and gluten free diet) was served on a piping hot plate which was less then ideal. When the last meal arrived out it was missing a major component and if we hadn't asked for it we would of gone without. Otherwise the meals...

Delicious food, good amounts for what you pay, pretty presentation, different seating types/options, love the greenery natural decor vibes! Service was friendly but didn't really see them much or have any check inside (would have been nice for takeaway containers after, or showing us where utensils were etc). Also not a huge fan of places that put napkins under the food - for example, I got the pork bao buns but had to move them around to lift out the napkin, as did my friend with her meal. Helpful barista, very accommodating and flexible last minute. Good vibes. Clean toilets with proper hot water and lovely hand cream!

Went to Tees cafe for a post breakfast coffee and scone. Staff were very accommodating when our group of 8 turned up right at opening time! They were prompt with our orders, however the savoury scone I ordered was a touch doughy, and mostly just tasted like a cheese scone. The coffee was 7/10, a nice warm drink on a cold morning. There was a lovely ambiance in the place, very warm and cosy, classic small town cafe. I will definitely be back at tees cafe, but I don’t think I will be getting the savoury scone again.
