EDIR :- The day after I left the below review one of the directors of the company cobtacted me and offered us a complementary meal to make up for our awfull experience
Since it was my birthday and we are presently out of town we decided to go out for tea. We arrived at 6 pm and with the wave of her hand and the point of her finger the waitress directed us to our table over in the corner The atmosphere was good, the decor was lovely the place was clean and tidy and they had the most amazing light shades that i would have loved to take home with me, but the tables were small and very close together and the chairs were very very uncomfortable. We took our time ordering our meal as we wanted to make the most of our time out and make sure we got exactually what we wanted. Our entre arrived in quick time and looked at tasted amazing and I thought if this is the quality of the food and the standard of service we are in for a good night. We weren't even half way through eating our entire and the waitress suddenly appeared at our table with our mains. We arrived at the restaurant at 6 pm, took our time ordering and we're enjoying our starters when at 6:30 pm the waitress appears at our table with our mains and when I told the waitress we weren't ready for our mains yet, she replied Well what do you want me to do with it ? This is where our dining experience started going down hill very very fast. The waitress stood there with our mains in her hand, we had to start shuffling plates we were half way through eating, glasses, bottles of wine and water around our small table to make room for the plates the waitress was holding in her hand and didn't know what to do with. We had dirty plates sitting on a window sill beside our table, full plates balancing on and hanging over the edge of the table and part of my husbands main meal sitting on the plate his entre arrived on, while trying to finish our entres which up to that point we had been enjoying. By the time we got to our main my Husband's seafood soup had started to go cold and was think, gluggy and un eatable and the bread had gone cold and wouldnt melt the butter and my twice cooked pork with chips and stir fry vegatables wasn't much better. I took a few bites of a meal I paid over $40 for and we left very disapointed.
Yes we spoke with both the manager and the duty manager and they could understand our frustration they gave us each a free desert and wiped the price of the bottle of wine off the bill, but upon thinking about it since they should have wipped the whole bill because of the shoddy service.
And yes I am probable nit picking here but I really don't think Track Suit Pants are suitable attire for a waitress to be wearing when serving customers in a restaurant. She was in a shirt with the business logo on it that looked really smart and then on her bottom half she was wearing tracksuit pants.
On our experience I would not recommend this...
Read moreMan alive! We had been to this restaurant on previous visits and really enjoyed the visit and the great food, so we went back on Tuesday night. We were seated in a very pleasant room, which we had to ourselves, and given the menu. I chose a seafood chowder entree and a seafood platter. You can see I'm crazy for kai moana. I fancy myself as a good judge of the quality of this food. The chowder was a generous portion and delicious. The seafood platter was not only delicious it was beautifully laid out, with all of my favourites. I had a ball! My wife ordered the pork which was again presented attractively, and was perfectly cooked. We finished off with a berry and chocolate ice cream sundae with our traditional two spoons. Another member of our party who has serious food allergies was worried about what she would eat, but the wonderful staff mixed and matched elements of the menu to ensure she has a wonderful meal. There is a great wine list, and a full bar in the restaurant. This is a must go if you are in Oamaru. The staff are obliging, friendly and very helpful and the chef is obviously a treasure. One of my favourite New Zealand restaurants, just a short walk from the Victorian part of the town, the steampunk museum, the penguin colony and...
Read moreThe food was great but the staff service is quite bad. We were a family of four, sat down for almost 5 minutes and the staff still didn't give us a menu or even a quick glance. The atmosphere was very weird because it felt as though we were sticking out like a sore thumb since we were literally the only Asians in the restaurant at that time. It almost felt as though the staff couldn't wait to get us out of the place because she kept walking past our table to see if we were done. I think they also might have messed up our order but we didn't mind much to change it. When I went to pay at the cashier, she didn't even looked at me until I made myself known. There was only one mature and jolly lady who was nice to us while the rest treated us as though we were invisible. Food - 7/10 recommend. Location -9/10 as it's a historic building built in 1896 and definitely worth if you're into that kind of thing. Staff service is a 5/10 because the jolly lady...
