Wānaka isite Visitor Information Centre — Attraction in South Island

Was so very hard to find. We managed to find other lost people while we walked around Wanaka following google maps and even then we still couldn't find you. We all walked past you 4 times! Yes, there're signs, yes, there is a flag but no, there is no sign post or flag right out front of your shop plus, you are surrounded by a cafe with tables and chairs scattered about the place that we had to manoeuvre our way through the many dogs tied up, kids and people. Once finally in, everything was so damn expensive that my eyes bulged out of my head! The information the safe gave was good, not great. I asked a question and I got laughed at. I asked that question because thats what you do in order to know something!!! The audacity of her arrogance was outstanding! Belittling me is NOT how it's done sweetheart. The worst info centre! I came in here with my husband to ask a few questions about hiking, camping etc (nothing that involves a “purchase”), and did not receive any help and got wrong information too! The guy basically shushed us when we asked something or gave answers that were just yes/no. We decided to walk to the doc centre where we got all of the relevant information and not surprisingly, different info than what the guy at this place gave us. So disappointing since this info centre is right in the centre of town and where most people go to. You'll find the Wanaka i-SITE in the small shopping centre area along Ardmore Street just in front of the lake. There is a handful of parking spots right in front of the i-Site and a larger carpark across the street along the lakefront. Opening hours are 9am to 5pm daily.

This is a good place to stop by when you first arrive in town. They staff are friendly and can give you latest information regarding weather and local trail conditions and make suggestions for which you might want to try during your visit to Wanaka.
