Beautiful Gardens of Wanaka — Attraction in South Island

We awoke to a crisp but beautiful morning full of anticipation for the day ahead… today we were having the privilege to visit 3 Wanaka gardens with Florence of Beautiful Gardens of Wanaka We had heard that Florence shared a lot of her knowledge about the plants we would be seeing. What made the experience even more enjoyable was the fact that Florence also had a lot of anecdotal knowledge about the gardeners themselves and how they established these wonderful gardens I think we may have chosen the perfect time to visit the gardens as the Rhododendrons were in full spectacular bloom, as were many other shrubs and flowers… but then… I am sure that Florence would choose gardens best suited to the season so we are looking forward to a different tour in a different season!… can’t get enough of them!!! There were many moments of little surprises along the way… hidden treasures when one least expected them!!!! Such was the creativity of the folk behind these wonderful gardens As is mentioned on the website, stopping for a cup of tea and enjoying the good company of tour buddies just added to the richness of the experience! We spent a lovely afternoon visiting 3 gardens in Wanaka with Florence. It was lovely to be picked up and dropped off back at our house. Luckily for us she had jackets to keep us warm on a chilly day. The 3 gardens were each very different, from traditionally landscaped, to whimsical and artistic, to her own arboretum, a work in progress, which contains an astounding collection of new and old trees, including beautiful deciduous species, and also some interesting conifers including larches which I had not seen before. Florence is very generous with her time and knowledge, and we loved her homemade garden tea, an unexpected treat.
