The employees here lie all the time.
Few weeks ago, on a Sunday morning, I bought a bottle of olive oil that had gone rancid(cloudy and murky). I was a bit annoyed, but it was close to my place so I went back to exchange it. I talked to the employee who seemed to be in charge, and then he said I could get the refund or exchange it at first(employee A). He took the oil with him, and disappeared. Then, I quickly scanned the oil section and found out that all of the same brand's same sized bottles had the same problem. I came back to report the issue, but I couldn't find the employee so I talked to another one (employee B). She kindly explained to me that I could just get a different brand and pay or get a refund for the price gap so I went back to the aisle to choose. Then another lady(employee C) came and told me that the oil should be "fine" because it's an extra virgin olive oil, it's "probably normal to be cloudy" and then a minute later, the first employee came back and repeated the same thing. I was almost convinced by their explanations as it seemed very strange that all of the bottles were cloudy. So I double checked with all the other brand's extra virgin olive oils, and I found none that's cloudy. I brought the employees (A and C) back and showed them and it was only then when I could get a good bottle of oil. They did not apologise. Later that day, I went to Toni's Pizzeria which is almost right next door and while waiting for the pizza, I came up with the idea to see if they removed the brand's rancid oils from the aisle. Of course, they were still there.
"Consuming rancid edible oil may leave an unpleasant taste, but it may not make you sick right away. However, the compromised oil can develop harmful free radicals that cause long-term cell damage and potentially lead to the development of chronic diseases." - from Livestrong.com.
Today, I visited to grab some snack. There was some new bags of chips at the front of the chips aisle with a discount sign of "at least 30% off". However, I could not find the price tag so I just took 2 bags to the self-checkout and tagged them to find out. They were $3 each, no discount(this shows up on the screen with red letters if applied). Then, I looked for an employee to ask about it. The first guy I ran into said he's new so he doesn't know. Instead, he took me to another guy, who has much more experience. And this guy told me that they're originally $4.5 each bag, discounted to $3 by 33%. Again, it was all very convincing, except that I just saw it on the screen, it was not dc'd. Also, it was 80g a bag so there was no way on earth it's $4.5 each. I asked him again if he's sure about it, explaining to him that there was no way to really know if the discount applied to each item, every two items, or three without the price tag. He repeated, "$3 each, 33% discount, originally $4.5". Although he is not the same guy as a few weeks ago, I couldn't trust him so I made a guess myself, and took 3 bags of it to the checkout and found out that it was $5 for 3 bags. I was mad and remembered last time. I went to see the oils, and they were still right there, still murky and cloudy.
I will never visit here. Not because there are better options, but just because this...
Read moreI like this countdown but, I had the worst experience the other day. I still get asked for ID so thats something I hate but expect to happen. I don't even drink! I rarely buy alcohol but if I do, it's because I'm at the store and my partner has called. What's worse is when I'm with my babies and my 2 young teens are being asked for ID. I now have to show my ID and explain that my older kids are baby teens (13 and 14). They look at my ID, then realize I'm an old bag and approve the purchase. This time however, here at greville countdown, I eventually got approved. Only for a nosy little caucasian girl to come have a little nosy then wonder off and tell another worker that we were approved. I was about to scan my card when a tall indian male employee had rudely told me to stop. He was very rude with how he dealt with the situation. He didn't even ask me for my ID or tell me why he's stopping me. I let him know that he was being very rude and he needed to explain himself instead of causing a scene! He was ignoring me until I practically forced him to take my ID and listen to me. I explained "If you can't do the math also, I'm 35. This is ridiculous and your being very rude. Don't you dare look at my babies like that (he was being very intimidating) and don't even bother asking for ID from them as they're only 13 and 14". When he finally looked at my ID, he was shocked, he turned red and was very apologetic. Just because I kept shaking my head, he had the nerve to say that I should take it as a compliment! I was disgusted! I replied " if you dealt with it right then I would have but NO, this is ridiculous. Everything was fine until you decided to listen to a nosy little trouble maker. Even worse you came here acting all intimidating which is scary for my babies, but not for me because I know I'm older than you! And, i knew you'll eventually apologize because you are in the wrong here. You made a scene, and stared my baby girls down! I can't and won't accept your pathetic apology". It was so annoying that he was standing so tall, acting all big and mighty. Only to end up red faced, looking small and embarrassed! Do better countdown!!! If my partner or my brother were there instead of me, our babies never would've been put in that situation and that's what really ticks me off! Even my little sister (who is 8 years younger than me) was with us, and they approved her alcohol without asking for her ID! This was by far the worst shopping experience ever! Jealousy has no place in a workplace with customers. The little trouble maker didn't even apologize for being the cause...
