I thought i would venture west and gove the famous Avondale Market a try. First thing I noticed is that it is massive compared to the Glen Innes markets. I noticed there is an abundance of fresh fruit and veg too which is awesome It was setup quite well though very packed. Overall a great experience, vendors are keen to battle on price to get your bizzo. I noticed not many food vendors which could possibly lower standards for those that sell cooked food. I say this as my key gripe is the cook island food stall near one of the exits..
Seems shortcuts taken on key ingredients.
I have not had a bitter tasting mayonnaise(potato salad) ever, I don't know any mamas that would change the ingredients like that and sell it publicly. It seems someone added lemon juice or vinegar in a likely attempt to stretch out the dressing/mayo. - please don't do that again it doesnt taste good, I'm still trying to wash the bitterness out.
Donuts were okay but I think need a bit more work on sugar ratio to avoid being bland.
Ill probably stick to the GI sunday market, as although it is tiny, the donuts, mayonnaise and poke is on point and easier to get steak rolls or other...

Read moreThe fruit and veg is cheaper than the supermarkets, granted. But the stalls are surrounded by bric-a-brac stalls selling broken pots, torn books, worn out shoes and more trash than treasure, and it's not quaint and cute and thrifty, it's just depressing and miserable. The parking is appallingly busy (which you now need to pay $3 for) - the queue extends out into the road - and very few vendors take anything except cash. A lot of the stalls are selling the same things so you're best off doing a bit of a lap of the stalls first before you start choosing who to buy from, but it's HUGELY busy, so be prepared to move slowly. If you want cheap, decent quality produce, you'll find it, but you won't...
