This isn't the Smithsonian, but there are only 2 museums in Koror (as well as the WWII Museum on Peleliu), and I'd say they're both worth a visit on a day off from diving. They complement one another well, and don't feel like they overlap. Palauans got to the islands over 2,000 years ago, which is pretty amazing, and worth learning about. Exhibits on that particular side of things are better at the Etpison Museum than at the Belau National Museum, which is better for more recent events. You can read every word in the Etpison Museum in an hour or so. The whole upstairs is a gift shop. Be sure to go all the way downstairs, where there's a small exhibit on shipbuilding and...

When I arrived in Palau my cell phone didn't work. I'm glad I downloaded Google Maps before I arrived in Palau so I could get around in my rental car.

A Tropical Storm was near Palau and brought alot of rain and high winds. My tours were canceled because of the Tropical Storm so I looked for other things to do. I passed the Etpison Museum when I first arrived to Koror so I checked it out.

I really enjoyed learning about Palauans and the history of the Republic of Palau. I found the first childbirth ritual to be the most interesting fact about Palauans.

This Museum doesn't let you take pictures and they do have a gift...

Pros The displays were decent. Some interesting stuff about the history of early settlers and discoveries. Quite intrigued to discover about the postpartum bathing rituals amongst Palauans.

Cons $10 per entry for such a tiny single story display was a bit of a rip off. I’ve been to countless museums around the world. This is the first time I’ve ever heard about prohibition of photo taking. It’s only allowed at 2 small sections in the building. Funny… Gift shop is just ok. Yes it’s big. But nothing too interesting. Depends on what you’re...

Paid entry fee $10 then began the journey through Palau's history (or Pelew back then). Interesting setup that shows that traditions, culture, values and local practices are still alive and well. I wanted to find a pair of earrings made out of hawksbill sea turtle shell but they didn't have them upstairs (souvenir shop). Western influence, woodcarving story boards, the dugong, first-born ceremony, canoe making. Learnt more about Palau rather than googling!
