During a week stay in Palau, my partner and I frequented Canoe House three times for dining in and once for takeaway. Because the prices were (fairly) reasonable, the tastes were familiar, and the atmosphere cozy.
A Google review from an American stated the Canoe House pizza was the best they had since they left the States a number of years ago. To me, the Margherita pizza we ordered tasted closer to a Little Caesar’s Hot N’ Ready cheese pizza, though was slightly better and almost four times the price.
The taste of the buffalo wings made me feel underwhelmed. Carrots and celery usually come with wings, so it was disappointing that they weren’t on the plate. The redeeming quality was that I was served 8 pieces of chicken instead of the 6 pieces stated on the menu.
Saving the best for last, the Dugout Burger, with beef from the U.S., was why we kept coming back. Also, the curly fries were better than other places we tried them in Koror.
The service was lacking, in my opinion, because I almost always had to get the server’s attention rather than them being proactive. This seemed to be a running theme in most of the restaurants we visited.
We were fortunate to catch the live music, which was entertaining. The musicians acted as if they were background music rather than interacting much with the crowd. That apparently is what the karaoke was for after the musicians packed up their things. It seemed like a mix of locals and travelers, which made for a fun vibe.
That bullseye in the photo is the real deal....

We came here just for the pizza. To start off our server was so quite half the time we couldn't not hear anything he said and hovered the entire time very awkwardly. We got our drinks ordered while deciding which pizza we wanted.
When the drinks were delivered we asked about the build your own pizza and he told us pizza is not available for atleast 1.5 hours. I went to the restroom and the only other table in the whole restaurant other than us had pizza at there table. When I came back from the bathroom and asked about that our server said oh yah they got their order in before our bulk order.
I have worked for several restaurants and you always prioritize the guests in house and waiting first. This just shows their priority is on take out orders and not dine in guests.
Another server came to our table to try and take our order while I was looking for another restaurant to dine at. I expressed my concerns and that we only came in for the pizza and he just walked away, no apologies or accommodation.
The manager on duty should have noticed the only other table in their restaurant right now is sitting at their table with menus still for over 15-20 min looking for other restaurants and have upset faces.
I was very disappointed with the customer service, and wish we never ordered the drinks first as we wasted $22 for a non blended...
Read moreBeautiful atmosphere and canoe house themed aesthetic. I came during lunch and service was not very welcoming for whatever reason. I sat myself and waited for service. The waitress was kind enough and the red snapper fish and chips were perfectly done. I would come back and eat again because the chef knows what he's doing. I ate and was left alone until I finished eating as the workers were just occupied even though the place was pretty much empty. All in all, service matched the restaurant's main consumers of ex-pats, military, retired men, as the bartender was loudly expressing his disappointment regarding his employment issues and non-renewal plans to go to Florida and shooting the shit with regular patrons and cussing up a storm due to his personal frustrations and talking about taking advantage of "hot" women patrons the other night while drinking. Don't come here with children but do get take out. Don't come here if you're a young female tourist who doesn't want to be preyed on.
This review is significantly different from any review I have ever given on Google and it is truly because I never expected this kind of service in Palau, let alone at a restaurant with a 4.5 rating. The food is worth the trip, but the service is straight out of a third world movie and I can't stress...
