The hotel staff is great and that is the reason for rating. The hotel itself depends greatly on which room you are given. The first room I had was not bad. The second room was horrible, it smelt like mold, the air-conditioning fan would run fine for a few minutes then it sounded like the fan was hitting something every time it turned (making a constant clicking sound that was loud enough to wake me up). The airconditioning also was dripping water and the staff attempted to fix it but they we're unable to do so. With all these problems it obviously did not work very well either if at all for blowing cold air. The channels available are extremely limited, I believe there were only 3 channels all news channels. The internet available is only available in the lobby.
I did not mind very much the hotel conditions as I was on vacation and was not spending a lot of time in the hotel. However if you are going to plan on using the hotel more then to unwind a little and sleep find a different hotel in Koror. This hotel is convenient with the corner store downstairs and the distance to downtown Koror a short walk away. There are other hotels available for not much more money that are better options and still in a...
Read moreI was denied boarding on an onward flight and found myself isolated at the Airport. Koror is a laid-back town and finding a room at three in the morning can be difficult. The first few hotels were closed and non-responsive and it took a bit of an effort to have the access door to the West Plaza Desekel unlocked by a sleeping attendant. Despite it being now about four in the morning, the rate was still $125 with a noon checkout time.||||There is no hotel provided internet, no room safe and not much of anything more. The air conditioned sputtered spitting flakes of rust onto the bed and amazingly keep the room cool. There is no restaurant but you can find something to eat from the ground floor independent market or restaurants within walking distance. Hotels are very expensive in Palau so be prepared as the quality is so much less than what you would get for the money in the Philippines or Thailand. ||||In the three days I was "stuck" on Palau, I found the island to be an interesting place and would probably return for a few days to explore. The local restaurants are reasonably priced. Patronize the Chinese restaurants if you are willing to pay what I consider to be...
Read moreWe spent a quick overnight at this facilty on our way to Peleliu the next day. The hotel was adequate. The room decor was okay - looked a lot like it was from the 1950’s - it was clean but not the best. The window had bars on it and our “patio” view was of the razor wire guarding some construction scaffolding next door. I would have appreciated a hair dryer in the room but there wasn’t one available. The ice machine was broken but there was some ice available in a cooler right next to it. There is an elevator for luggage since the reception desk is one floor up from ground level. There is a convenience store on the street level and the hotel is above it. Make no mistake - this is a “bare bones” hotel and if that’s all a visitor is looking for it will be okay. Some visitors to Koror may be there strictly to scuba dive and not care too much about where they stay. If that is you then this may be the spot for you. As for me, I will be perfectly okay not...
