5-Star Review of Shangri-La Boracay: A Mythical Paradise Resort

This was our third time visiting what we call our “paradise resort” to celebrate our 8th anniversary, and once again, Shangri-La Boracay exceeded our already high expectations! We thought a repeat trip might not be as exciting, but we were wrong — we enjoyed it just as much as our first visit, if not more!

From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. At the airport, we were warmly greeted and assigned a private 15-seater bus just for the two of us, taking us to the exclusive port lounge. There, we were pampered with cold, wonderfully fragrant face towels, perfect for a sunny day. The staff took care of our luggage from the airport to our room — we didn’t have to lift a finger!

The speedboat ride to the resort was nothing short of amazing, as we had the boat all to ourselves, truly making us feel like VIPs. The caretaker even offered to take photos and videos of us, and they turned out fantastic! Upon docking, we were greeted by live island music and transported via buggy to the reception area, where we were welcomed with the resort’s signature warm hospitality. Refreshing dalandan juice, Nespresso coffee, and delectable peanut and red velvet cookies were offered, making our arrival truly delightful.

During our stay, every staff member we encountered greeted us with a smile — the genuine warmth and hospitality were ever-present. Walking around the expansive, lush gardens filled with exotic plants and trees, we were in awe of the numerous lounge spots, the stunning pool with outdoor jacuzzis, and the serene beach that felt like our private sanctuary. The sunset views were absolutely magical!

Our room had a breathtaking beach view, and everything we ate was divine. Shangri-La Boracay truly lives up to its name, offering exceptional service, upscale amenities, and a beautiful location that embodies elegance, comfort, and tranquility.

Shangri-La Boracay is the epitome of a mythical paradise — a place of peace, serenity, and ultimate relaxation, where you can escape the world and experience blissful rejuvenation. We’ll definitely be coming back again and again!

Our Premier Seaview Room was worth every peso — pay premium, get premium! As soon as we entered, we were greeted by a cool, spacious haven that exceeded our expectations. The room featured two comfortable queen beds, a cozy sofa, a mini table, a work area, and the pièce de résistance: a veranda with an absolutely breathtaking view of the expansive beach. The gentle sea breeze embraced us as we soaked in the stunning landscape. We spent our mornings lounging on the outdoor bed, immersing ourselves in the calming sounds of the waves, chirping birds, and refreshing island air.

In the afternoons, I even set up my work on the veranda’s table — talk about productive days in paradise! The resort made our anniversary extra special by surprising us with towel origami in the shape of two swans, a bottle of red wine, a fruit plate, nuts, and a bathtub filled with bubbles and tiny purple flowers. The handwritten letter from General Manager Hans Gfrei welcoming us back was a particularly heartwarming touch.

The bed was so comfortable that it made waking up in the mornings difficult! The bathroom was equally luxurious, boasting two sinks (one for each of us) and a bathtub with a view of the beach. We did encounter a minor issue on the first night due to a slight smell of wet wood near the bed, but the staff promptly resolved it by bringing in a humidifier and spraying the signature Shangri-La scent. The room’s interiors were beautifully curated, showcasing Filipino design elements and artworks. Though our room was quite a walk from the lobby, the option to call for a buggy made navigating the resort hassle-free.

Our stay was a true VIP experience, from the room to the food to the service. Shangri-La Boracay once again delivered on its promise of luxury and hospitality. We were pampered beyond words and are already planning...

Our 3 nights stay at the Shangri-La in Boracay was perhaps THE BEST experience we've had to date.

It all started with the very friendly and accommodating crew we've interacted with via email. I've made specific requests for my upcoming proposal to my then girlfriend, and they acknowledged and executed each and every one of them and MORE. Already had a great feeling and excitement building up.

Transportation wise, the boat + shuttle ride from the airport to their resort (despite heavy rains that day), was pleasant. Their hospitality in person started off strong and kept scaling upwards. Everyone greeted us like VIPs, and we were directly checked in at one of their Tree House Villas by Sir Michael.

At the Tree House Villa, we were mind-blown upon arrival. We could not believe that this was meant for 2 people as it was so spacious yet comfortable. Furniture is top quality, tons of amenities, and you even have a jacuzzi + 2 sun loungers on the balcony. Towels are always refreshed daily, plates restocked, jacuzzi refilled, everything! Loved the cookies and muffins plus snacks (mangos, figs, nuts, etc.). You'll never go hungry or thirsty. This was just the 2nd floor.

The 1st floor did not disappoint at all as well. Our bed was decorated with an amazing array of flowers. The pillows were super comfortable, it is almost too hard to describe. Curtains can be opened electronically giving you a grand view of the beach. The bathroom has great amenities, great mirrors, obsidian sinks, and a bathtub facing the waters. They really thought this through. Only complaint was the WiFi on the 1st floor, which was spotty, but could be easily remedied by going to the 2nd floor.

The following day, the sky cleared up and wow, we were greeted by a spectacular view of Punta Bunga Beach. You can even hear the waves from our location. To be honest, we just wanted to stay in the villa the whole time, but we decided to check out the breakfast buffet.

Their breakfast buffet is held at their Vintana Restaurant. Great selection, plenty of space to sit, very accommodating staff. Superb experience overall. Their other restaurant, Cielo is also open for dining, which is especially great to have lunch at while being within mere meters of the beach. Plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas to have a beer or cocktail and a snack before or after jumping into their secluded, private beach.

Lastly, to highlight their above-and-beyond hospitality, I originally booked a private dining experience, but unfortunately they were out of slots. This was acceptable as it is popular, so I opted for dinner for 2 at Cielo via email. On the day of, our Evening Host drove us to a private, customized all-white dining table which overlooked their private beach. I couldn't believe it. I was expecting a regular table along the rest, which would have been okay. Simply outdone my expectations and blew my mind once again. They made way on our special day!

Following an amazing dinner, as requested, I asked my evening host Sir Josephat, in collab with our morning host Sir Michael, to set up the flowers leading up the stairs and ending near the jacuzzi for my proposal + a bouquet. It was all perfect and he even got pictures of the proposal live. Just as I imagined days prior, the night played out exactly as I wanted. These guys are pros.

With that said, shoutout to Sir Michael, Sir Josephat, and Sir Norlyn for setting everything up. Legendary hosts that go above and beyond to meet your every expectations (we tried not to bother them as much as possible though hehe). Shoutout also to every staff, our personal masseuse, waiters, bartenders, and lifeguards who treated us like VIPs. You guys are amazing.

So to conclude, what else can I say, as I simply cannot recall another experience at a different property that blew our minds like they did. Utmost spectacular and highly, highly...

Truly a 5-star rated facility. If I am allowed to give 100, I would! Excellent service, location, food and everything.

We stayed for 3 nights. The only regret is we didn't stay longer. We are so impressed with the outstanding customer service, cleanliness of the room, location in a beautiful private beach, delicious food, attentiveness of the staff, knowledgeable employees and fast service.

Our room is beautiful and clean with a panoramic ocean front. Shangrila Bora's room is the most beautiful we have ever had compared to other resorts we've been to in the Caribbean. The view is breathtaking. We were at the ocean front. The room is massive and always clean. We even got a surprise gift when we first checked in. There was a cake and some balloons.

I got stomach ache on our last day, which sucks because we couldn't explore the entire resort. The doctor and nurses were extremely thorough and helpful. They took great care of me. The dietary director also spent time with me. When I got sick in Shangri-la Cebu, the clinical team there is impatient and did not really spend time. The only good nurse was the very last nurse who saw me in the evening (we didn't get her name).

ALL staff are very kind and nice in Shangri-la Bora. The concierge lady is very accommodating. From the time we walked in, the staff guided us.

The private beach has lots of seashells so we decided to go to station 0 Beach. Although it is shared with Movenpick and Crimson guests at station 0, the sand is more refined. The pool in the resort is beautiful and modern. The water has the appropriate temperature. It is an infinity pool. The staff who are helping at the beach and pool side are very attentive. If they see you are looking for something, they will approach you immediately. If staff sees you don't have towels, they will bring towels to you immediately. Our only concern is that the beach towel kinda stink. We didn't get to enjoy ordering at poolside or beachside because we didn't have enough time :(

Upon entry to the resort's property, a group of musicians will greet you. It already builds up the positive ambience and liveliness of the resort.

They have a golf cart that can take you around because the resort is quite big if you don't feel like walking. They come fast. They have a shuttle that could take you to Station 1 and 2 but we didn't use it since shuttle schedule only has limited slots. We used e-tricycle.

The in room dining is excellent and fast. We ordered Filipino food and the food is delicious, fresh and well served on a large table. The presentation is on point. The food is properly packaged to keep the right temperature and prevent from bacteria.

Airport transfers - very smooth and hassle free! We had our own speedboat and shuttle, luckily no other guests were there to share with. There's also a lounge where we waited and got to relax. The staff are very acommodating in the lounge.

Breakfast buffet in this resort is insane! When I say insane, it is massive and has a million options. When we got there, we got seated right away. The breakfast felt like lunch. There's so much variety from typical breakfast Filipino style, to American style, donuts, taho, pastries, sushi etc../

Sadly because we didn't have enough time, we didn't get to enjoy relaxing by the pool and beach. We missed trying other restaurants. They have a game room and spa treatments we missed :( We are definitely returning, hopefully next year. We are from New Jersey. We will definitely recommend Shangrila boracay to our co workers and friends who plan to visit Philippines.

Thank you all! This resort is the BEST, and what makes it special is the...

COCKROACHES AT PREMIUM PRICES. I had high hopes given the good reviews but we were quite disappointed. We booked 3 nights at the Shangri La Boracay, and had a very problematic stay due to so many issues. To keep it objective, here are are pros and cons: Pros: 1. Food program was solid all across the resort, though breakfast is quite crowded, so come early for that. 2. Facilities are beautiful and well kept, including 2 beaches and if you have kids, the entertainment center has all sorts of arcade and board games 3. Rooms are spacious 4. They have a robust activity schedule, but note most activities cost extra, like kayaking and paddle-boarding. Cons: 1. Service is inconsistent all across. We noticed a lot of inefficiencies and lack of communication between teams. For example, disturbance from cleaning staff unnecessarily ringing our room 15 times on two days after the room had already been “cleaned”. 2. Power went out at least 5 times every day across the entire resort. Even in good weather. 3. Internet is very poor 4. TVs are small and hard to cast. Not all rooms have Apple TV. 5. Cleanliness was not at a 5-star level. We had an incident where we found living cockroaches crawling over the bar area. More on this below. 6. Spa massage (03/28) was awful and extremely painful. Likely one of the worst I’ve ever had. The masseuse (Dolly) did not care I was sunburnt and was quite unprofessional in her delivery, exhibiting an angry demeanour. 7. Food is overpriced - a 25% markup to account for VAT, service charge, and local taxes. For Philippines, prices were unnecessarily high. 8. Way too many kids. For parents this may be fine but for those seeking peace and quiet, this is definitely not the resort for your vacation. 9. Hidden charges. Upon check out we were charged for the boats back to the dock. At no point was this disclosed. I asked 3 times if airport transfers were included and they said “yes” but were charged for those regardless. My biggest problem is that the experience felt quite far from a 5-star hotel, especially for a Shangri La. Cleanliness was a big issue. Hard for me to get over cockroaches crawling around our room and while the duty manager offered a $65USD food credit to make up for the 2 hours we lost fixing this issue, it was not enough to compensate the problem given how expensive the rooms are. The cleanliness issue kept getting worse as every day we noticed dirty mugs, glasses and wine glasses in our room that we had to wash ourselves eventually. In conclusion, while I think the Shangri La Boracay is a beautiful resort, I would not stay here again. In fact, if I could go back in time, I’d book the Movenpick instead, which is 5x less in price, for similar facilities including the Punta Bunga beach which is shared with the Shangri La. When swimming by the shared beach, I went inside the Movenpick and was shocked to see how beautiful the resort is. So you are most definitely paying for a brand at the Shangri La, and it is so evident it is overpriced when the level of service is at best a 3-star.

We didn't get to enjoy ordering at poolside or beachside because we didn't have enough time :( Upon entry to the resort's property, a group of musicians will greet you. There's so much variety from typical breakfast Filipino style, to American style, donuts, taho, pastries, sushi etc../ Sadly because we didn't have enough time, we didn't get to enjoy relaxing by the pool and beach. We missed trying other restaurants. They have a game room and spa treatments we missed :( We are definitely returning, hopefully next year. We are from New Jersey. We will definitely recommend Shangrila boracay to our co workers and friends who plan to visit Philippines. Thank you all! This resort is the BEST, and what makes it special is the workers. Great job!
