While in Cancun, we preferred going to Playa chac-mool over the other beaches available. Actually we went every chance we had. We felt safe and secure there. It is a very clean beach. Both the water and the sand are very clean. The sand is very fine and almost powdery. There were small areas where the sargasso was floating about. However, the ocean current and waves moved it out of the way fairly quickly. There was some sargasso at the water's edge. But after the water's edge, the sand was very clean. The waves were from 6" to 2' tall, and the water color was amazing. The public restrooms at the entrance point are decently clean for both the men's and women's sides. They also have a family restroom available. And showers are available to rinse off. The trash collection points are repeatedly emptied out. With both empty aluminum cans and plastics separated for recycling. All the beaches in Mexico prohibit glass containers of any kind. So only aluminum and plastic containers are allowed. There are people present who strictly enforce that rule, so beware. A life guard was present every day up to 5 pm. The beach is a sea turtle nesting site. And had an area roped off where turtle eggs were incubating in the sand. It was visibly fenced off, and everyone respected the boundary. Public transportation is available from Cancun Centro, through the Hotel Zone, and back. However parking is difficult if you have your own vehicle. The public parking areas are small and fill up quickly. It's best to get to this beach early if you want to park for free. And they close at 4 pm, so you must remove your car or risk having it chained in with padlock overnight....for free. There is also parking under Chac-Mool mall, which is right by the beach entrance point. There is a small parking fee. But if you are carrying coolers and a lot of gear, it is best to drop that off with your team, then go park your vehicle after. There is also some street parking available, but these are far and few and could get your vehicle towed. An OXXO is located at the beach entrance point, which is very convenient. Plastic beach tables, chairs, and umbrellas are available for a fee. And are only set out when paid for. Not left out all day covering every available space on the beach like it's done on Playa Norte in Isla Mujeres. Which forces everyone to rent the chairs if they want to spend time on that beach. On weekdays, the beach was fairly quiet. There was some music, but it was kept mostly at low volume. On those days, you can clearly hear the ocean and enjoy the other sounds of nature. The ocean's smell was pleasant and not overwhelming. This is a family beach where couples come to spend time together. Kids play in the sand and in the water. It's where families and friends come to enjoy their time. Peace and quiet, for the most part, are respected. On the weekend the ambiance of this beach is different. It is packed and there are many music sources that are kept at high volumn. There is also a lot of drinking. It becomes a party beach, and there is a lot of "people watching" going on. It is very similar to the beaches close to Coco bongo and Señor frogs. Overall, we all enjoyed this beach and highly recommend it any day of the week.

Quite beautiful beach, but I found not suitable for swimming… This beach gets its name after the Mayan God of Rain, “Chaac Mool. It is located on Kilometer 10 in Cancun’s Hotel Zone, right in front of Señor Frogs Restaurant. This beach and Gaviota Azul beach are adjacent to each other (I guess separated by the small hill), just .5 Km apart so I consider this one big long wide stretch of beach. But waves here can be bit aggressive some time due to the wind which is not the case in Gaviota Azul beach. Its waters seem calm at first sight, but do not let appearances fool you; the undertow is strong and can be dangerous for inexperienced swimmers Unfortunately, it doesn’t have bathrooms or palapas, so if you want to get some shade you will need to rent a big sun umbrella for around 100 to 150 MXN pesos per day.

Amazing public beach with all necessary facilities, like a clean restroom, umbrella services and a life guard. Also saw several police and national guard stop and hang out for awhile. You can also get some music from the resorts nearby. From the street, follow the blue Playa sign. Beach parking is free but you have to ask to enter if the chain is up, which means it's full. Best to come early morning if you're driving. The beach was really clean and free of debris. The water was amazingly blue, especially in polarized sunglass. Definitely bring your snorkel because there's lots of coral/rock formations just beyond the waves. See the photos in my review for more information included on the signs.

Great public beach with fine white sand and warm water. There were free men’s and women’s washrooms/change rooms which were relatively clean. Limited shaded areas, though there were umbrellas for rent (we were offered a day rate of 500 MXN for a simple umbrella). There’s an Oxxo and Circle K near the public entrance which sell all the snacks and beverages that you’ll need. One downside were the aggressive waves. It was particularly windy on the day of my visit which may have played a part. I can’t comment on the undertow, though it seems as though there are calmer waters for swimming farther north in a coved area.

Top beach in cancun. Public bathroom no toilet seat no toilet paper no running water in 10pesos but it is there. Also showers to rinse off. Great beach if you enter here and walk north. You get to listen to the music for free. I also recommend as the sun sets and the beach falls into shade walking north past the big rock towards coco bongo and beyond- up by the break water (big pile of rocks at the northernmost point of the beach). This area has the sun the longest and is the BEST place to swim in cancun due to the breakwater.

Lovely public beach, very easily accessible by bus. There's no umbrellas or sunbeds to rent but we didn't mind. The beach is very wide and usually not too crowded. We were always able to find a spot without too many people in the water around us. The water is absolutely beautiful here. We saw the ocean being completely calm and also wavy, so you get the best of both. They rent jet skis on this beach too if you're interested. Bathrooms and showers are located right by the entrance.
