I recently visited the Foundation Amália Rodrigues, and it was an incredibly moving experience. Housed in a charming pre‑Pombaline yellow building on Rua de São Bento, this museum was once the home of the legendary Fado singer Amália Rodrigues, known as the “Queen of Fado” . Walking through the rooms felt intimate and personal. I admired her original furniture, portraits, stage dresses, and jewelry—every detail seemed frozen in time, offering a genuine glimpse into her life . The guided tour, enriched with fascinating stories about her career and the cultural context of Fado, deepened my appreciation of her legacy.

We learned about the house and museum of Amelia Rodriguez in our A2 Portuguese language textbook. This is a sight well off the beaten path, the house of the iconic fado singer. The house is untouched from the 70's and 80's including her perfumes and other products from that time. It is a slice of life from the era in Lisbon in those days as well as a tribute to this musical ambassador. She has sang in all of the global concert arenas in her time and for many world leaders. She is a national treasure. The tour is guided and available in various languages. It is a unique insight into life in Portugal at the time.

We went for the fado concert Saturday at 3:30, and is really worth it! Small concert, not crowded, you can also order a coffee, wine, anything while you are watching the performance. It is in the patio of the house so it's really nice, If you have fever you can buy the tickets there but I'm sure you can also buy them in the place. But do it in advance because there isn't a lot of people and it's full! If you don't know Portuguese don't worry about it, they will make you fill part and will do small intersections with the audience saying "now in English" but I don't want to spoiled anything more. Just go!

A very disappointing experience. I had bought tickets to visit the museum and to have the fado experience. I bought through the app of "fever" a very famous app in Portugal which sells tickets for events, I had already used the app and never had had a problem. When I went with my tickets (3 tickets of 25 euros each) to Fundaçao Amalia Rodrigues, they said to me that the tour and fado were not available and they had nothing to do with the fever app (even if the name of the museum is clearly advertised in there) it’s hard for me to believe they don’t know where their services are advertised and sold. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing after having spent 75 euros and scheduling my sight seeing for the day in Lisbon in order to get at the museum on time. They simply said that I should contact the app that sold the tickets, that they had nothing to do whatsoever, not wanting to take any responsibility on it. The young lady at the reception was nice, empathetic and tried to help me and my family since we were clearly disappointed with the situation. However, and older lady that came from an office (she seemed to be like the one in charge) was extremely rude to me, she came to tell me that they had nothing to do with the tickets, and she even raised her voice at me when I was trying to ask for some responsibility on their side, I just couldn't believe that treatment. What a disgrace of behaviour towards customers that just feel scammed and disappointed with the whole situation. This is not an image you want to keep from Portuguese people, but to be fair, I think this is not the normal behaviour, it was just this woman incredibly impolite. In the end, we just left the place feeling very sad and disappointed with that kind of treatment. I wouldn't recommend the place...

Amália Rodrigues...  esta grande senhora, e DIVA do fado português!

I would have given 5 stars for the singer, musicans, and ambience, but I deducted 2 stars for misleading customer service. I booked several months in advance through Lisboa Secreta and Fever. We were supposed to have a tour of the house at 4:00, followed by a concert at 5:00. Several weeks in advance I received an email stating that the start time had changed from 4:00 to 5:00. We arrived before 5:00 expecting a tour of the house first, and were told our tickets didn't include the tour, and there would be no time for one after the show because the museum closes at 6:00. It looks like they removed the tour from the program after I had already bought my ticket, but instead of telling me, they just told us to come an hour later, and hoped I wouldn't notice that the tour was no...
