Portugal Lisbon, Cascais, Sintra, and the Algarve Sedem’s Grand Tour Part I

I had the pleasure of visiting the Basilica da Estrela during my trip to Lisbon, and I was deeply impressed by its beauty and spirituality. This magnificent basilica is undoubtedly a gem of architecture and a place worth visiting. The Basilica da Estrela is one of the most impressive churches I have ever seen. Its striking dome towers majestically above the surrounding neighborhood and is visible from afar. The interior of the basilica is as breathtaking as its exterior facade. The intricate decorations, marble columns, frescoes, and magnificent altars create a special atmosphere filled with deep spiritual significance. I was particularly amazed by the precise craftsmanship evident in every detail of the basilica. The intricate carvings and rich embellishments are a testament to the exceptional talent of the artisans who contributed to this masterpiece. It is a place where one can lose track of time and immerse oneself in the beauty of centuries past. The Basilica da Estrela also offers a splendid view of the city of Lisbon. After climbing the spiral staircase, you reach the rooftop terrace, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and the Tagus River. This view alone is worth the visit and invites you to linger, taking in the beauty of the surroundings. In addition to the impressive architecture and wonderful view, I would also like to highlight the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere inside the basilica. It is a place of reflection and retreat, where one can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and find a moment of inner calm. The Basilica da Estrela also holds regular worship services, providing another opportunity to connect with the spiritual aspect of the place. All in all, I highly recommend the Basilica da Estrela in Lisbon. Its splendid architecture, intricate decorations, magnificent view, and serene atmosphere make it an unforgettable experience. Whether you are interested in art and architecture or simply seeking a place of tranquility, the basilica is sure to captivate you.

The church, which was built in the Estrela neighborhood as a dedication by Queen Maria I of Portugal, whose wish for an heir was fulfilled, takes its name from this district. Since it is dedicated to the heart of Jesus, it is also known as the Convent of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The church, which we can call the Baroque style, has a remarkable splendor and a beautiful architecture. The entrance is free, but I can say that the Bema section is viewed from a bit of a distance. There was a fee to access the terrace of the church. Since our visit was in the evening, we could not go to the roof, but I think the view is very beautiful with the Estrela park opposite. I should also point out that the huge dome of the church, located in the hilly part of the neighborhood in the west of Lisbon, can be seen from many points in the surrounding area. If you take a nice route to the church, I think you can enjoy watching this dome until you get close.

We sat there for about 45 minutes, and during that time, I experienced an overwhelming sense of peace, both in mind and soul. Although I'm not a religious person, this place somehow drew me into a meditative state. It was a feeling I’ve never encountered anywhere else on Earth. The serenity here is truly unique, and it made me feel deeply connected to my surroundings in a way I couldn’t fully explain.

When you visit, I highly recommend turning off your phone and ensuring that you won’t need to check anything in your pockets. Make sure all the zippers on your clothing are adjusted how you like because even the slightest movement seems to echo through the space. The architecture of this place is designed in such a way that even the smallest noise is amplified. It feels as if simply blinking could be heard by others. To truly embrace the stillness and the atmosphere of the space, prepare yourself to be quiet, undisturbed, and fully present for the next hour. The tranquility here invites you to just be, without distraction, and allows you to fully immerse yourself in the calming energy that...
