Alvor beach is magnificent. It is very deep, especially at low tide and very long too which is great for beach walks on the flat sand. Backed by the board walk the sand is more dune like which then extends out to where the sun beds and umbrellas are positioned that can be rented. Slide down the gentle ridge and you can head for the flat sand and the sea. Certain parts of the beach are more popular than others but as you head further west and almost as you pass the last beach restaurant then it becomes much quieter and more deserted. We rented sun loungers (20€ for a pair) as it was a little windy and wanted to avoid getting attacked by the sand, but there are lots of areas for you to bring your umbrella and set up (The further you go from the restaurants the quieter it is).
