Read moreFabulous! We walked in (just follow the big warehouse looking building, the sign is teeny tiny but the green door was “welcome”) just go in. We didn’t do winery tour. We went for tasting and took two types. The lively gentleman with years of handling tourists was really knowledgeable and warm. He taught us how the local grapes are made. At its height collared was producing 1m litres and now it’s down to 20k litres per year. Endangered. Very hard to produce wine (their wines come in 0,5litres) and it takes at least 6 years from grape to wine bottle. The taste is amazing (for me anyway, unique). We also heard Gordon Ramsey came to cook food that pairs with the grapes (they have a saltiness given the ocean and the sand) and support for the ageing vine region. Note that these grapes survived the grape disease that decimated most of the vines in Europe in late 19th century. Anyways, was a wonderful experience at this co-op that is holding on to tradition and producing old world wine. My hope is that visitors to cascais and Sintra take some time to drop by.
We used public transport. Bus 1624 cascais to sintra passes by Colares. From the bus stop it’s a five minute walk to the Adega / Cellar. They break for lunch so morning or afternoon session. It’s 20-25 minutes onward bus to sintra. The bus 1624 also passes by Cabo da Roca. As of this weekend in Feb-2025 the fare was flat...
Read moreAppreciated the different way this style of wine was made. Grapes are grown in the sand and has a slight saltiness to its taster because of the ocean as it grows on the beach. Winery is very simple. Tasting room is small and connected to the barrel room. The vineyard itself is located 9km away from the winery and you need your own transportation to get there for a tour. We unfortunately got there close to closing and we’re not able to do a tour of the winery or vineyard but had a chance to taste the...
