Colarense is a hidden gem in Colares Vila. A great place where to taste real Portuguese food, typical from the area. Every dish is prepared at the moment. Menu is limited but excellent, it changes everyday according of what it is available at the local market that morning. Let Mrs Celeste to surprise you with her home-made meals, full of flavour that only can be achieved by someone that have cooked all her life. The food experience is like going to have a meal at your grandmother's home, so do not expect strict ceremonies or fancy decoration. Here, the dishes are the stars. Read moreBest restaurant in the sintra area. Simple, traditional portuguese home cooked food. The owners are super sweet and the food is absolutely mind blowing. We had chicken and pork that were super tender and tasty (my friends are screaming "succulent" in the background as I'm typing this).
Food is cheap as well. We got an entire set including cheese, olives, butter, bread, a drink, salad, fries, rice, meat, a pyjama (a trio set of desserts) and post meal coffee for 10 euros!
Only con they have is that they only speak Portuguese so it might be hard for non speakers.
Also, p.s. the entrance is a staircase of a really pink house. We thought it was somebody's house at first and had to ask the locals...

We happened upon this place heading toward the coast and are so glad we did. We don’t speak Portuguese, but with a bit of Spanish and Google translate, we ordered fish and chicken. The meals are family style, with salads and sides (and dessert). Everything is homemade by a Portuguese grandmother (some of the grandchildren got home from school while we were eating lunch).
