I do not recommend.
On arrival we were asked if I can translate the Afrikaans tour guide information for my partner to English. I was visibly uncomfortable with this.
As we stepped into the little train we both felt anxious within covid times. We were caught by surprise with the small space and amount of people in the little train.
We did not want to ruin the day for anyone else an politely got up and left.
A week later, I phoned to ask for the tickets to be valid when the tour is available in English and when we are a bit more comfortable with the idea of the small space and Covid.
At first Pierre was very unreasonable about it and disregarded my concerns. I mentioned that I've handled the situation politely from day one and that I've been very excited to experience the train ride.
Pierre agreed that I had been very professional about everything and said that he will email me the two tickets (which I paid R400 for) valid for one year.
I received the email today an found his attitude completely unprofessiona and Pierre ended the email with "... you have two free tickets." Tickets I paid for.
From an avid traveller, I very rarely experience tourism relations like this. I do not recommend the Diaz...

My husband and I took the train while visiting Mossel Bay. We hopped on what is a run down three carriage train, with no safety or guide on what to do during the trip.
Our guide spoke 90% Afrikaans and 10% English as we drove through the town. So I missed the “important” historical announcements. When I asked him if he could please consider other people (non Afrikaneers) when doing the trip, he told me that his people speak Afrikaans and that’s it. If I don’t like it then oh well, I must just be okay. I told him that he is running a business and it’s a poor attitude to have, especially when taking black peoples money! Also please bear in mind, this is an over 60 White racist Afrikaneer running a business in 2023 that said this. So his views are not going to change. I decided to step back and not waste my time. I told him that his website should express “FOR WHITES ONLY”.
Just rather find something else to do! Save your coins cause they really don’t want them. Also there’s nothing worth seeing...
Read moreWe booked to go from Hartenbos to Glentana on the Diaz Express today. WE were extremely disappointed in this. There was no one telling you about what could be seen and very little feedback to the passengers. Instead of stopping for lunch on our way to Glentana as the description said, the coach just continued on to Glentana. No one informed us that they were stopping on the way back. The stop for lunch was FAR too long. The driver told us to meet back at the station at Groot Brak in two hours time. This was even far too long. At the station we then had to wait an additional 55 minutes for the train to arrive. There was no information regarding the delay. We just sat on the platform (no chairs) in the sun and waited not knowing where the train was. This means the time spent on the train was about an hour and a half and the time waiting to go back was 5 minutes short of 3 hours. By the time the train arrived, we had all had enough and did not really enjoy the trip back. Not good...
