2025, you’ve dropped the ball.

I have been a regular at Mkhaya since February 2024 when I moved to Marshalltown, and for the whole of last year, I was always happy with my meals. But 2025 has introduced me to a completely different side of this restaurant—one I don’t recognize.

It started during the three-week power outage between December 2024 and January 2025. I ordered the platter for two, and the wors… THE WORS… was smaller than my pinkie finger—shrivelled, dry, and just sad. I let that slide because everything else was fine.

Then in February, I ordered the hardbody chicken. What I received was mostly bones, attached to a tiny, pitiful part of a chicken’s neck. It’s just plain rude to serve a paying customer the neck of a chicken—unless they specifically ordered necks, which I didn’t.

But last week Thursday (27 March 2025) was the final straw. Coming from work, I ordered the beef stew—something I’ve had before with no issues. This time? I was literally given nothing but fat. FAT! No meat, just chunks of fat. I don’t even eat the little bits of fat attached to real meat—I always strip it away. So why would I pay for a meal that is just pure fat?

At this point, I can confidently say you’ve lost a loyal customer. Your service has gone from reliable to outright disappointing. Do better.

ITS A SHAME THAT THE PLACE IS WHAT IT IS NOW Great concepts but the management of this place is poor i don't blame the staff but you can clearly see that the place is not well run and the staff is not led. My biggest issue is that it is dirty The tables the chairs the walls by the grillers ,the front wall that you see when entering has hand writings on it, tables and chairs are stacked on top of each other horribly at the entrance of the shop gathering dust there is smoke filling up the place cause their extractor is probably not functioning and thats what greets you when you coming in

went in for a double cheese burger and was informed that because of load shedding i wouldn"t get fries and i was okay sure maybe a salad ? and the guy said cool and told the staff to make a greek salad in place of the chips then to my suprise when my food came it had cold fries and the lady asked me if they are fine i said okay cause i ddnt wanna complain but they didnt give me any explanation which was horrible.

the burger was that bad in terms of taste but the texture of the bun was soggy at the bottom which was disgusting.

please take better care of the place the food and service .their takeaway packaging is the only...

Rated 2 stars for a number of reasons. Cleanliness: Tables aren't cleaned after. The employees dont fully wear masks, some wear their hair nets and some dont. Those who do dont wear them properly. Service: The service was poor. Most of the employees are on their phones. One customer even complained about the service while we were there. Food quality: The food tastes fairly okay. The attached photo is the platter for 3 going for R170. The pap is for R13 making it a grand total of R183. Note that the menu isnt upto date as the pap is advertised as R10 per side but was charged R13 for it. Areas for improvement: Cleanliness and paying attention to customers.
