Beechwood Gardens — Attraction in Johannesburg Ward 90

BEWARE!!!!! Be weary about using this venue for any of your events. The owners (husband and wife) and their events manager are extremely rude and unprofessional. They gave my event planner hell on the day of my function. When we went to view the venue weeks before, they were so nice and accepted all our plans for the event, however, on the day of my event, their tune changed and they became so rude and disrespectful. Extremely unprofessional behaviour for people who are running a venue.

Some of the issues I experienced at my event:

1. When you hire this venue, you hire it exclusively. And mind you, it is not cheap to hire this venue considering you are paying only for the use of the venue. Nothing else. However, on arriving for my event, the owners had hired out one section of the venue to other clients. We paid for exclusive use of the venue so it is unethical to do that. Just plain greed on part of the owners.
2. During my event, the owners were hosting viewings of the venue so there were random people walking around my event. I paid for exclusive use of the venue so it is extremely unprofessional to be doing viewings. Again, just plain greed.
3. The wife had her friends over during my event and she and her friends were eating my food and asked my mendhi artist to put mendhi for them as well. It was ridiculous. I was shocked at how entitled she felt to be doing this at my event. Again, disgustingly unprofessional.
4. The owners and their manager were so dismissive and made nasty comments to my event planner throughout the event. Their behaviour was uncalled for as my event planner was professional the entire time and she had not done anything to warrant such nasty comments. No rules were broken, everything was done professionally. So their comments and dismissive behaviour were from a personal capacity. If you read previous reviews, you will see that there is a trend of bad reviews coming from people of colour. It seems the owners and their manager do not like people of colour and will gladly take your money but then treat you...

Racism !! Racism !! Racism!! Let me tell you a story about this Venue that reserves parking for white people only but people of color are being told to park outside because there is no space even thou as their client, carrying heavy stuff that needs to be offloaded for the Event have to be carried by hands from the outside. We hired the main Venue, promised that there will be no other events but guess what?? Not only was there other Events but they gave them spaces that we initially planned to use. It gets worse ... their maintenance people were there using their heavy machinery, making noise, therefore we had to raise our mic volumes up so that the crowd can hear our speakers but they cut the power so that we don't have access to sound systems anymore. While we tried to keep the show going, not only was there noise from the maintenance people but their white friends who took our spaces & parking started making noise because they were doing Karaoke. Even more noise than us but they never cut their power. So I am gonna ask for some of our money back & if you are a person of color, please find another venue. Shame it does look good thou, but if you are black or colored or brown, you will feel it when their white clients book...

I cannot stress enough please pay attention to the very low reviews below. If I could give a 0 I would. The lady that received us upon arrival was incredibly rude. I went there already knowing of the remarks made by friends from France that had visited the place that were discouraged from going inside even when they had agreed to pay for a photoshoot . The lady I’m not sure her name is Nina/Maggie is dismissive, rude, distasteful and then I was told by the gentleman whom seems to own the place that we have to book online if we want a picnic or any kind of event. Be warned you’re really going to pay for something where there’s rats at the staircase and right outside the gate.

Either this place is for the 1% or they just want the garden to themselves all I can say is this is why progress in our nation is stunted because of ridiculous things like this.
