The worst resturant experience ever.
We had a booking for 7:30pm for a table of 7 for a birthday celebration. Our staggered and incomplete orders started comming in at 9:30pm.The waiter was incompetent and underskilled. The rice that was served was sticky and foul smelling and we returned it immediately. The oxtail was two tiny pieces of bones in a sauce and 2 cold, burnt replacement naans which we had to pay for, to replace the rotten rice we were served at the beginning of the meal. The grilled prawns were undercooked and inedible as was the lobster thermidor. The calamari tasted like rubber bands .The new rice was undercooked and chalky. No waiters or management to check on the order and infact we had to go downstairs to ask for more drinks whilst we waited for food and found the staff playing on cellphones. We were charged R3000.00 for a meal no one ate and charged for things we didn't even want. The service was pathetic. There was cockroaches running on the floor. There was zero competent managerial supervision and worst of all there was zero apology for the pathetic food, service and cleanliness of the resturant. Food of this quality should definetly not be served especially during ramadaan.
This has definitely been one of our worst eating experiences in Johannesburg. The meal cost us R3000.00 in total but was inedible and when we complained the manager said "sorry can you pay on two machines please".
Please avoid it at all costs ! In fact eating at Balluchis should come with a health ⚠️
This resturant doesn't even deserve the required one star rating this app requires to post, that's how bad this...
Read moreWent to Baluchi for Lunch on a warm December afternoon after watching Cricket at Wanderers. The restaurant is walking distance from the stadium and is a good spot to have lunch or dinner post a match while the crowds subside.
The name Baluchi means “from Baluchistan”, a province in Pakistan bordering Iran. I was expecting some interesting dishes from the area but the menu is the usual mix of Indian/Pakistani cuisine. So the focus is on grilled meats and hearty curries with different kinds of breads. The restaurant was quite busy the day I visited attesting to its popularity. Most of the patrons were young as well as extended families. The decor is very beautiful with a lot of gold in the tableware, cutlery etc.
As it’s a Halaal restaurant, no alcohol is served but a number of interesting non alcoholic beverages are available. Ordered some mocktails and they were very nice albeit a bit too sweet for my taste.
I tried a Chicken and a Lamb curry with paratha and rice and the flavours were good without being exceptional. Service was good and our waiter was a pleasant gentleman whose name I unfortunately cannot recollect. Prices are higher than an Indian takeaway but reasonable for the ambiance and quality of food.
Parking in front of the restaurant is limited but there is a decent amount of street parking around the restaurant.
Recommended if you’re in the area looking for Indian/Pakistani food. Although there is a taste of India two doors down from it if you like...
Read moreOur party of 17 (including children) chose Baluchi for what we hoped would be a relaxing family lunch. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations.
Although we were the only guests in the restaurant, dishes arrived haphazardly and mostly cold. Soups, mains, and sides came out in no order - the naan and rice appeared after most of us had finished eating. Staff eventually disclosed that the head chef was absent and several menu items couldn’t be prepared, but this hardly explains why the basics were mishandled.
Soups: Overwhelmed by raw ginger. Butter Chicken: Just four small cubes of fillet in each portion. Chicken Wings & Tikka: Under-grilled and bland. Pasta: The lone bright spot - still edible and somewhat enjoyable for the kids. Family Platter (advertised for 4–5): Arrived with only four pieces of each meat and a single, undersized basket of chips - no salad at all. What once came with generous salads and sides has shrunk to insufficient servings at premium prices.
A year ago, Baluchi offered flavourful dishes and hearty portions. That standard has deteriorated dramatically while prices remain high. For what we paid, this meal was simply not worth it.
Cold food, delayed service, reduced portions, and a noticeable drop in flavour make Baluchi an easy pass. We will not be returning and cannot in good conscience recommend it until the restaurant addresses both its kitchen consistency and customer...
