Abandoned property vandalized and used as a drug den.
Almost two decades ago this was once a beautiful home. Now it is used as a drug den for criminals and vagrants. The community at Willard Beach, Ballito are highly concerned with the danger this property poses. They would appreciate the town councils approval in getting the property demolished. It is structurally unsound and a hideout for criminals. Due to a dispute with the builder and the March 2007 high seas with swells approx 8.5m high, caused significant damage to this coastal property. Local factors included construction too close to the high water mark, coastal erosion and coastal modification. The town of Ballito, north of Durban, was the worst-hit area. The spot for holiday makers in summer months, very popular. Lifeguards on duty. Umbrellas and beach chairs available to rent. Most holidays surfing lessons are on offer from Ballito Surf School. Numerous parking spots in the shade. The boardwalk overlooks the beach and leads to the ablutions which have always been neat and clean when we visit. Many vendors selling ice cream and sunnies on the beach. There is a lovey kiosk close to the beach selling water, cool drinks, toasted sandwiches, coffee and more. Read moreBest beach, tranquil as long as people behave. Somehow when people start to do their braai's, litter, loud music and liquor things aren't as serene as this place usually is. In Durban, the Metro there has stopped people from doing braai on the sea sand and in many spots as far as Westbrook the Durban Metro restricts alcohol on the beach and on the sea sand. Perhaps the Ballito authorities need to do the same because most the transgressors aren't local they avoid going to Durban beaches because they can't make braai fires and drink liquor on the beach sand.
