What a wonderful art space. I have visited many museums in Spain over the past 4 months. Some were special, like this one, some awful, especially those that put modern visual art inside the classical room's with their 4 white walls. Neomudejar is an edgy old factory location ( I am pretty old so I am happy to admit I worked in factories like this) and well, the aging space compliments and brings out the art so much better. The staff were real, chilled and smiling. A first given the amount of bored, sitting in the corner, flicking their phone attendant's, I have seen in most Spanish art museums. I am still so delighted to visit honest spaces like La Neomudejar, but realistic enough to understand that the sad "Instagram" generation will not get their self need hits in such a genuine art space. Some friends are supporting them, in my case, taking some pictures for promotion and covers. I wanted to use the courtyard, the wall outside, as a backdrop. A punk looking guy from the gallery came out and told us that if we wanted to take photos there, we had to pay him money. I tried to explain that these were young artist with no contracts from companies and we all did this for love of music. We were only using the wall at the entrance of the courtyard anyway. He said that if we didn’t pay him we could not be there. And he didn’t mean paying the ticket to the exhibition! For an Art space claiming to be vanguardist and to support young artist, their attitude was rather mercantilist,...
Read moreAn alternative venue that promotes up and coming artists, mainly working with graffiti and politically conscious art, providing them with a large space to showcase their artwork as well as offering them residencies. La Neomudejar is set in an abandoned old building which was part of Atocha train station. When you walk in, you can just feel the imprint of history on its walls and floors. The interaction between the architecture and the artworks is also very interesting. The entrance fee is €5 and it has a small garden area with tables and chairs where you can...
