Amazing show, great acts & a fantastic host. All sadly let down by the lack of attention to detail & the shabbiness of the venue. A show as good as this deserves better.Your website promises an "Elegantly decorated candlelight theatre" Unfortunately this was not the case. For example, you have red velvet stage curtains with gold trim, the table cloths should match this to brighten the otherwise drab & black auditorium. Perhaps proper candlesticks / candle holders on the table, not just an old glass with a tealight in it. The Vintage posters on the walls are good but are completely lost in the darkness. No sign of any traditional magic symbols like Top Hats, Magic Wands etc These could be painted on the walls. The TV puppet Sooty was mentioned during the show, maybe a painting of him for the kids. The table number holders were broken and scratched & the numbers within had seen better days! For such a large venue the toilets were a disgrace, the Beach bars have better facilities. On arrival we were shown to the Houdini Lounge. Once again, your website promises a " Beautifully Decorated Modern Indoor Lounge " Far from it! The foyer of our hotel looked better. The wicker furniture was well past its best & the cushions were dirty. No sign of anything magical apart from the wall posters. We did watch a staff member clean the tables without moving anything from them! That is Magic. I was drinking beer & my wife had the red wine, both were served in the same grubby wine glasses. When I asked for a lager glass I was brought an equally old & unclean pint glass. These could be replaced quite cheaply at IKEA! Table Magic was advertised! Sadly it didn't reach our table or the tables behind us. Our photograph was taken before the show then during the interval this was offered to us in the form of a key ring. We didn't want a key ring but would happily have paid for the actual photograph, sadly this wasn't offered to us. Once again , the show was spectacular & highly recommended. Work is needed to bring the rest up to the high standard of the performance & performers!! They...
Read moreWhatever you do, avoid the Broadway musical show offered at the house of illusions. This is currently run on Monday and wednesday evenings.
It advertises as different west end musicals you may be familiar with, such as Matilda, the greatest showman, back to the future, and hairspray, among others. What it actually is, though, is a collection of one or two songs from these different musicals run over the course of a 2 hour ish show.
We had only been to the house of illusions last night for their magic show, and what a great night it was, would recommend. But this was the total opposite!!
The singers were the same handful of people throughout the night, the vast majority of who unfortunately can not sing and should not be signing at all!
The music was very loud, to the point i had to cover my ears with my hands to reduce the noise (for i cannot call it anything else) emitting from the stage.
At no point did anyone notice our plight and offer earplugs or anything!! They seriously need to turn down the music volume and the microphones, because it was deafening!!
We ultimately chose to save our hearing and left the show during the break between 1st and 2nd act, in favour of watching the fountain show/display at 9pm which was far more worthwhile and completely free!!
If you expect to be compensanted for your torubles here, prepare to be disappointed!! Manager on sight did not care one bit as to our opinion, 'its just your opinion' he said!! 'I dont agree with you' he said!!! How about instead of being cocky and arogant with me you listen to your paying customers and make a change, take crtiscism, offer apologies for our experience and acknowledge the problem llike any respectable manager would do!! Of course you wont do that though, you'll continue to sell your tickets to the poor unfortunate souls who dont know any better, because all you care about is that you have our money!!
People beware, if you go to any of the others show here they will try to sell you tickets to the broadway also. DO NOT BUY UNDER ANY...
