Very large shopping centre on 3 levels. Lots of bars, restaurants and a couple of night clubs many with a gay clientele. Lots of families too, particularly during the day. Great arcades for the kids and a well maintained minigolf.
The food is all generally good and reasonably priced but you will pay slightly more than in the surrounding neighbourhood restaurants.
The quality of the alcohol served varies a lot so be wary of happy hour deals and if possible watch what they put in your glass. Taxis are available and very cheap from the minigolf course 24 hours so DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE (there are often police road blocks to catch DUI.)
Prices of everything in the shops have been greatly marked up so expect to have to haggle for a better deal but you can get 50% off in some cases.
Drag is also a hit here with 3 or 4 different shows. Sparkles is all in English with a very raw, vulgar style. Funny boys is a late night show with a varied cast all in spanish with very pushy bar staff. My favourite is Terry show, a small friendly venue with a very talented cast. The show changes a lot from night to night so stop by a couple of times to see more. There is also a humorous twist to the show so not all the performances...
Read moreNightlife not the same as it was 20 years ago. Local business owners with agendas have spoilt it. The straights are invading now as the bars they used to frequent have closed down. Problem with this place is the majority of the bars are all open to the outside and right next to each other so you can't hear the music in the majority of them as its not loud enough, presumably because of local restrictions on noise pollution. And then you get bars that must be obviously breaking the rules blasting their rubbish music across the square unchallenged by the authorities, drowning out the music in every other bar nearby. And if you want to have a dance, forget it. The only bars that play music loud enough to dance don't get busy til about 3am, and the music is absolutely dreadful - quite obviously aimed at the straight Spanish crowd rather than the tourists who make up the vast majority of the customers. It's such a shame as it used to be an enjoyable place for a night out, but the only reason to go there now is if you want to sit and chat and people watch in the...
Read moreFun Atmosphere, but Beware of Pushy Scam Shops
Yumbo Shopping Center is a fun place with a great atmosphere, offering plenty of nice bars, restaurants, and even a lovely mini golf course. There are also a few reputable shops like Fund Grube that are worth visiting.
However, be extremely cautious of the so-called "souvenir" shops, especially those run by some Indian/Pakistani or Moroccan vendors. These places often sell cheap items at wildly inflated prices—for example, handbags for €180–€200 that you can easily find elsewhere for €60, or shoes priced at €50 that are available in nearby stores for just €18. It’s clear price gouging.
What's worse is their aggressive sales tactics. Many of them are overly persistent and make shopping uncomfortable. I was even followed after firmly saying no to one of the pushier vendors. It felt intimidating and ruined an otherwise enjoyable visit.
Tip: Stick to the bars, restaurants, and official stores, and avoid these scammy,...
